Becoming a Doctor, How?

After high school, lets say I get into a UC. Now what classes would I have to take to become a doctor? I am trying to understand how the process works, and I’m hoping someone will help me out here. What is pre-med? Is it a major, or is it just something your classified as if you take certain classes. What classes are generally taken if you enter a college as pre-med? Thanks for the help.

A premed is a person hoping to apply to med schoo.....really briefly, take 1 year chem, 1 year bio + soem others (look at med school applications to decide which prerequisites to take). Also, look at the MCATs and start studying from today....in 3 years take them and ace them. In 4 years, have recommendations ready, applications filed and apply to 20 or so med schools. Also, keep a GPA of 3.8 or above (regardless of your undergrad major).

A "premed" is almost anyone that's taken the basic mandatory classes....the degree could be in engineering, biology, chemistry whatever.

"applications filed and apply to 20 or so med schools"

yeah...and then get into one-two schools...lol (just a guess)

pre-med is usually chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, physics, calculus, and english. if you're in high school, don't bother studying for the MCATs already, unless you are crazy and have nothing to do. the "premed" courses usually cover much of the mateiral in the MCAT

after all that is when the "fun" begins. My cousin who is at UC San Francisco med school basically lives in the library studying his ass off and getting an average of 2 hours of sleep a day. I'm kinda shocked at what the medical students go through to become a doctor. If you want to be a doctor, you must be a 150 percent that being a doctor is your number one career choice. If it you are sure, med school will be hard but not as hard as people who just try to become a doctor becuz of the money.

interesting, I am ready for hell and I don't have much of a life to begin with, so even though I like the money that comes with the job, it is not the reason for becoming a doctor. I have no doubts on what I want to do, if that helps. I have to still focus on SAT's before i can study for MCATS. What if I took the MCATs and did good before i finished 4 years of college? like after a year or two, if i did good, could i just go straight to med school and start hell early?

^ haha good question. But no. You first gotta graduate homie. Just focus on your GPA nd MCAT scores. but don't worry now. study SAT first.

doctor do get a better-paid job on average...but it is a such boring job and requires endless time in order to achieve.....

anywaz...somebody likes it for money, somebody for interests...well....

GPA+ MCAT scores + experience (part-time internships??)

right?
or is it generally a stats oriented game

the stats pretty much makeup your admission decision. The experience and internships will help, but really, the stats are what the colleges see.
