becoming an mit blogger

so how can we?

There is a contest around new years, you have to submit your previous blog entries I think, and blog on a very weird topic.

It’s not around New Year’s – it will be in the summer.

To be more explicit, given that you have to submit previous blog entries, you should already be blogging and be interesting. A lot of people apply every year, and the new bloggers are chosen by a committee of a few admissions officers and the senior bloggers that year.

Man, back in my (and Mollie’s) day, it was so much easier and less complicated…

I was personally recruited and hired by Ben Jones when I visited during CPW. This was mostly because he thought it was funny that I was vulgar and angsty on my personal blog.

Now there’s a whole application. How times change.

In addition to submitting your personal blog, you usually need to write an entry based on a crazy prompt, or submit your favorite youtube video, or something like that. It’s basically a portfolio and a handful of odd/interesting short answers.

Yeah, I remember getting this email out of the blue from this guy named Ben Jones – I almost deleted it, because I thought it was probably spam.

Oh, Ben. They don’t make internet stalkers like him anymore.

At CPW last year, I walked up to the check-in table and he shouted ‘IS THAT KAREN?!!’ It was somewhat alarming.

But yeah, oh Ben. Now I know why my blog averaged 3 hits a day from MIT.EDU :)

Ben didn’t recognize me at CPW. I was very sad. :frowning: (Well, not really, since I never posted on the blogs until after I was accepted or anything. I just would have been really impressed if he had known me. :D)

Random note - I didn’t start my public blog until a fair bit after I was accepted into MIT(June 11, 2007, to be precise), mainly because I didn’t feel like my high school experience was exciting enough to write about. However, I was quite prolific once I finally got going.

^Well, it doesn’t hurt that the selection committee probably isn’t going to read more than 20 or so entries per applicant, because there are so many applicants. :)

I take credit for you – you were my number one pick, and I advocated for you in our selection committee.

Admit it, you miss me.
