Becoming an officer in FBLA

So, I'm in PA-FBLA. It is my first year, and i went to states for Business Ethics, and came in 11th place, and made it to finals. I want to become Secretary for my chapter, then move on to become regional office. Anyone have tips on how i could get people's votes in becoming secretary?

I was thinking of saying since I'm an AP student, i take many notes a day, and they have to be organized in order to understand what i am writing. Also in my competition, i had to summarize our case study and take notes on it. I was a good part of the reason why we came in 11th pace. I was also going to say how i do tons of community service, and never miss meetings. Anyone else have ideas of what i can say? Or is that good.

Is anyone here in FBLA? Possibly an officer?

Fbla is a joke at my school. whoever is most popular wins officer.

Same at my school. Our chapter is just an excuse to have a trip to NYC.

I want to run for VP for PA FBLA State Chapter next year, I was a delegate this year and the people who got elected just gave out candy. Also secretary is not contested most years.

What you have is good. Add something about your experience in the club and other leadership positions you’ve held. Since you’re giving this speech to a large crowd, make a witty or memorable joke during your speech and you’ll be remembered come ballot time.

Just make a good speach. No one (well atleast most people) do not want to hear you brag about yourself. It will make them feel inferior.

Just say that you want to do it to improve the club FOR THEM. You’ve been a member and now want to be an officer, to help the CURRENT MEMBERS.

Was i bragging? I was just naming strengths to get votes. But i dont want to say i would improve it for them because sadly i wouldnt have the power to.

I quit FBLA in the first few months. They made me pay $20 Dues and $60 for fundraising books. I’m all JSA now :D

I had to pay $20 too, but so does everyone that joins FBLA, its a requirement.

In my FBLA chapter the adviser picks the officers, as we do a LOT of stuff and it requires a dedicated club (we have 130+ members) to get things going. I was Liaison in 10th grade (a custom position created whose responsibility was to get the word out about the club, promote its events, etc.), VP this year, and am President for next year. It would totally suck if officers were voted by election, as NOTHING would ever get done and the club would suffer… because at my school, a lot of (irresponsible) people join FBLA.

Well, i won the election! Now on to running for regional office next year. But elections aren’t bad, as our adivser won’t let just anybody run. You had to be qualified and an active member of our chapter.

But BCH, if you don’t mind me asking. What position are you for PA-FBLA state office? (You can PM me if you want) When I went to States in April, I saw every candidate speech and the new officers, even talked to a few. They were all pretty cool people, and very intelligent. I would love to run for FBLA state office if i became a regional officer. But would i need to qualify for states to have the opportunity to run for state office? Or do i just need to be a regional officer that is willing to run.

I go to a pretty small school in a pretty small state (Nh) so we only have president(s) in our local chapter. Because of this, we also just go from states to nationals… but everyone has to pay their way there or fundraise. So yeah, $20 dues seem like nothing.
I think it’s great if you can put another leadership position on your resume/apps, especially if you don’t have that many. However, if you already have lots of these positions, I would work hard on your event for some national recognition. Last year I got 2nd place at nationals in my event, and I really feel that was a huge thing for the colleges I got into (I’m a senior).

Good luck JonWasNotHere! I am president of my school chapter, but we did not really have much of an election (it was more like eenie meenie miney moe). I was thinking about running for a regional office next year, but I’m too busy (too lazy). I will just try to improve the very low membership number to at least a respectable number. And I kinda bragged a little before I was president (that I made it to nationals).

20$? My school only charges 10$… but FBLA is awesome. :)
