I've started shopping for dorm stuff for the fall and found a set of bed raisers at Target to lift my bed up and give me more storage underneath. My question is: are bed raisers made standard to fit any bed or will I have trouble using these? Also, are there any other worthwhile storage tips that you've discovered?

I will be at neu also come fall. Most bed risers are standard and if you can’t fit it in the closet or under the bed then it may have to hide in plain site.

Also, check out Facebook. Looks like the day before school starts students will be bussed to target for any last minute stuff before school.

Some of the NU dorms have beds that have large wooden square legs, so they wouldn’t fit the circle ones where you just put the tiny leg on top.

Keep in mind that some dorms have lofted beds and absolutely no room for you to put them down (making bed risers pointless, and sometimes dangerous).

Lifted beds, that is a good point. My rooming assignment is still pending so I can’t even plan according to the building I’ll be staying in so it’s kind of a guessing game. Doesn’t the bookstore sell bed raisers too? I think I’ll just return what I’ve bought for now. And I’ve heard about the Target trip. I’ve kept that in mind and plan to get storage things then after I see my room.

Technically, Northeastern requires(if you’re going to use bed raisers) you purchase bed raisers from the bookstore. While I have no idea as to the price (its probably a slight markup over what they are elsewhere), they will definitely fit your bed. Many dorms have beds that don’t require raisers by the way- Of the dorms I’ve stayed in (Speare for Orientation, IV during the year, and Smith during consolidation), both Smith and IV had beds that could easily be adjusted to ~yard off the ground and, in Smith, provided additional pieces so that you could loft the bed up to bunk-bed height, and place you desk underneath it.

Just wanted to mention that the Target trip is absolutely crazy. They bus kids from all the Boston area schools to this Target, so the selection is very picked-over. The store is very, very crowded, and the line at Northeastern can be extremely long. So if you decide to go, I’d definitely line up early. It’s definitely useful to get some things, but I guess I wouldn’t bank on it for too many things if you can avoid it.

So the best thing I did last year was go to bed bath and beyond. If you go there they will have all of the items you want ready to be picked up at the bed bath and beyond that is near campus. There is one that is literally a mile away from campus. I moved from texas so this was definitly the best way to save on luggage expenses and you are guarenteed the items you want. The target trip was a fun way to shop with some of the new people you might have met however dont rely on this as major way to get most of the items you might need. As for bed risers I got them and then I had a lofted bed in smith. If you got an economy room then you better expect lofted beds. I got a regualar sized room but still got lofted beds because the room was long and narrow with plenty of space but no way to deloft the beds. I was in Smith Hall btw. Which in my opinion is one of the best non honors dorms around. Anyway best of luck to you this fall! and I hope this helps
