Is it really true that the dorm beds do not fit normal twin sheets and we need to purchase our sheets through USC?

As I understand it, twin XL are standardized and most any twin XL sheets will fit the twin XL mattresses at USC.

Twin XL sized mattress pads and sheets are available at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Wal-Mart, JC Penney, Company Store, and other places.

Regular twin sheets will be too short.

jmateu, you received that mailer too? I did some digging and the consensus was that you can find a better deal (both for price and quality) later in the summer at retail places running back to school specials. Just be sure the fitted sheet is XL twin.

Normal twin sheets won’t fit, that much is true. You do need twin XL (extralong) sheets. However, you don’t need to purchase it through USC, many places that sell linen sell them, just make sure it’s XL.

Any XL twin sheets fit just fine. Many of us purchased sheets elsewhere & had our kids bring them to USC. The stores in the area near USC all carry XL twin sheets, knowing students will be needing/purchasing them.

USC even has some bus runs to nearby Target stores, etc. to help kids move in & get the gear they want/need in connection with fall move-in. Don’t know what the deal is for spring move in, as we helped D move in when she transferred in January.

Just be aware, that USC bus to Target was only one time, at least my freshman year. I got my sheets at a local store and just brought them.

You don’t need to purchase sheets through USC. In fact, Berkeley students get the same identical order forms.

You should get the sheets from local stores, like Target or Sears.

Okay I know its not necessary to purchase the linen from USC but is it recommended? Is it too much trouble to go around buying stuff ourselves, or will we have adequate time to get it done when we get there? I am international so I will be looking to move in slightly earlier (say 15 Aug?) and thus if I order USC linen I can only get it on the 19th. Don’t really wanna go without sheets for 4 days! :(

Especially if you want sheets & the ones ordered from USC won’t arrive until 8/19, I see no great benefit from ordering from their “service.” It is easy to get bedding and pretty much everything you want from local stores close to USC. If you need to, you can rent a car or take a bus or taxi. You could also bring/buy a sleeping bag that can be used when you travel or have guests.

im buying the sheets from usc (as a grad. gift lol) and then just buying an extra comforter/blanket to throw on top. for me, it was easier because i dont have to carry around a “bed in a bag” thing on move in day, i can just pick up my set when i get to school.

ycang, you can order online from Bed Bath and Beyond and arrange for it to be sent to you after you get to USC. The following is a message they sent me when I asked about their service. The sheets are more expensive but better quality than the USC ones.

“Our site offers an additional shipping method called PACK & HOLD. This will allow you to delay the shipping of your order to the college of your choice, when you need it to arrive. Simply visit our site at www.bedbathandbeyond.com and click on the SHOP FOR COLLEGE TAB. Select all of the items you wish to purchase and add them to your cart. During the checkout process, you will be asked shipping information. Make sure you check with your student’s college regarding shipments on campus. Most colleges have a “window” for delivery, so make sure you check the date and the location for shipments. We will pick, pack and hold your package until you the date you chose!”

Oh great! Thanks, I was considering dormbuys.com and it didn’t occur to me to check bed bath & beyond but now I will :)

does anybody know anything about the linen from USC? Is it kinda cheap? I kinda wanna order one pak becuz it seems to have everything and i can just pick them up in school on move-in day. Buying them may save me a lot of trouble, but i also wanna know more about the quality and price. Any reply will be really appreciated! thanks

Here is an old thread where some were discussing the quality of the bed sheets purchased from the linens brochure sent to new students-
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/513971-linens-brochure.html?highlight=sheets

my roommate and i both got the sheets from the usc service (it’s actually a fundraiser by the ursc organization, the residential student government).

we thought it was nice because it was convenient and the sheets and towels were pretty nice… i didn’t think they seemed to be cheap.

but you can find twin xl sheets just about anywhere you buy sheets so if you’d rather, just do that (the twin xl size is used at pretty much every college everywhere).

i recommend getting some sort of memory foam pad from a bed place. i didn’t really like the mattress pad the ursc place sold… i got the quilted one. it doesn’t really do anything, haha. i don’t know about the egg crate style one.

My kids prefer cotton over cotton/polyester, especially for bedding. The packages only have the latter and it costs more, since as was pointed out it is a fundraiser & convenience.

okay so I am coming from Australia… only get there 5 days before my orientation which is at the end of the summer, so if I wait to buy sheets at like target and stuff I don’t think there will be any cute patterns left and I will be left with either really ugly ones or itchy ones anyways so would it be worth it to just buy the USC ones, they don’t seem that much more expensive then like target or dormbuys.com and WAY cheaper than bed bath and beyond.

Only you can make that choice. My kids didn’t care much about patterns of sheets & when we took S shopping around move-in day in August, there was good selection at the stores near USC for bedding. Since we had purchased 2 sets of his bedding on-line @ 9.99/set, he didn’t need any more & brought the bedding washed to campus with us. He handed down his bedding to his sister after he moved off campus & purchased a double bed.

or you could buy some sheets at a store at home and just bring them with you.

they don’t sell extra long twin here.

um HImom where did your Son buy the sheets at 9.99 a set?
