Bed sheets

So... yesterday I received a packet from my college [ucsc] in regards to the dorm bed sheets. They stated that since the mattress is longer than normal, we need to get specially sized bed sheets for them. Along with this letter, they sent a packet from some company who makes specially fitted bed sets for college kids. This package contains all necessary bed items including towels, a small hamper, and a small storage thingy. Now the problem is that it is about 200 dollars. I think that it is kind of too pricey. I looked online at bed bath and beyond and at jcpenny, and jcpenny has really nice x-large twin bed in a bags which has everything you need in it.. for 80 dollars. They state that the x-large twin size is perfect for the dorm mattresses. Do you recommend just going out and shopping for my own bed stuff.. or just going along with what my college says and buy the whole bed collection for 200 dollars from the company. [ website for company is www.rhl.org/scr if you have no clue what i am talking about.]

I would probably purchase it elsewhere if possible. I would presume that since the school advertises this company, the college would probably be able to reap some of the cost. I would think of it somewhat as a fundraiser or something.

Get it from JCPenny, I can't remember anything dorm related that the school sold that wasn't a rip off.

Don't buy your sheets with the company. Just go out shopping yourself at jcpenney, linens & things, bed bath and beyond, or target.

Definitely don't spend the $200. Go out and buy your own.

Yeah, when they say that only their sheets will fit, they're saying that the beds are twin XL. I work at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, so I know for a fact that the only difference between twin and twin XL is 6 inches (the top sheets are exactly the same). If you buy twin XL, you should be fine.

do target, i remeber getting mine for $20 plus a pillow cover and they were pretty nice! twin x-L

can I buy my own bed and like stick the college's bed in a storage space somewhere? Do they make that bed size in retail stores lol...sorry I just don't like lying in the same beds that other ppl used before.

Shramleon, just buy a mattress topper and some sheets...it's not that bad, trust me.

I know my college won't let you remove any furniture. I'd just try to not worry about sleeping on a bed that someone else has, they're probably plastic covered beds anyway so whatever got on it would be washed off, and you'll have new sheets.

Colleges always try to give you some BS excuse that items HAVE to be bought through them. Twin XL sheets will work just fine. My school tries to pass off crappy monotone colored sheets for $200-$300 and people fall for it.

Those sheets from the school are total crap. I've heard that they fall apart after like 2 washings. Even if they don't, you can get much cheaper NICE sheets at places like Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, etc. I got mine from BB&B last year and they were really nice and comfy. Also, get a mattress pad and a foam cover for the bed, that is all you need to make it SOOO much softer and more comfortable. Don't waste your money on microfiber BS or whatever, mattress and foam pads work great.

My mom bought these for me last year. They weren't too terribly bad, but yes, you can find much better ones elsewhere. She bought new ones for this year from Bed, Bath & Beyond I think.

The reason that universities send these out is because it's a fundraiser for the school's Residence Hall Association (or analogous organization).

Yeah, most colleges do this, but Twin XL sheets are very common at nearly all stores that sell sheets (JCPenney, BB&B, Linens n Things, Target, etc.).

The reason it's 200 dollars is that it comes with a lot of things that wouldn't be coming with the JCPenny package (towels, for example). That said, I wouldn't buy these sheets. Nowhere on the site can you find anything about the thread count (very suspicious) and the fact that somebody above said they fall apart quickly makes it seem even more suspicious. They are probably terrible.

I echo the advice to go to BB&B and LNT. You buy what you need and skip what you don't. Twin XL is plentiful there. Plus they have all the stuff that isn't bedding, like hangers, shower caddies, laundry bags, ect. I have yet to see any Twin XL at JCPenny, but I'm sure it's there somewhere.

look for online things, i got a nice bed set for $5 from bed bath and beyond

My parents ordered from rhl...I have the package here in my room...I went through all the stuff, I dunno...It seemed like a good deal...?

Well, the quality isn't always bad, it depends on who they get them from. It's just that you can almost always get the stuff cheaper elsewhere.

why dont you just get the stretch-y XL jersey sheets? theyll almost def fit, and are ruuhl soft
