Bedding for dorms

Hello,
I love prints and fabric and color and pattern and being warm in the wintertime, but I truly have little to no grasp on what kind of bedding I should purchase/bring to college. Comforter or duvet or quilt or a combination? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Probably a combination of all 3; check out Bed, Bath & Beyond. They have many great Roxy, Tommy Bahama, etc sets and they sometimes give out 20% off coupons in the mail/newspapers.

Thanks so much for your help GoldOwl!

FYI, I have found it nearly impossible to find a twin duvet. So what I did was buy a full duvet/down comforter and twin xl sheets. It sounds odd, but I compared the size of the duvet to the bed, and it’s not so bad, especially if you plan to loft.

Last year we found a bed in a bag combo at Bed Bath and Beyond that had TwinXL sheet set, duvet (comforter cover), sham, and decorative pillows. We did our shopping in September, and the choice of TwinXL anything was fairly well picked over. We couldn’t find a BBB within a reasonable distance of campus, so we didn’t try the order it at your local store for pickup at your destination. Also, be careful about the bed in a bag combos. Some of the less expensive ones have sheets that are less than soft.

Also, for anyone who might be considering this route, you really only need the sheets in the Twin XL size. Twin XL comforters can be hard to find and are often poor quality (the “Bed in a Bag” ones aren’t always very warm or sturdy); a regular twin sized comforter with cover or quilt works just fine and doesn’t appear weird looking or too short on the bed. I purchased Twin XL sheets separately, but got a good quality comforter with cover and quilt to go on top from Pottery Barn Teen and have been very pleased with it (after having slept on it for over 3 years already). So, a good option if you’re not finding things you like in Twin XL.
