I just wanted to know if anyone has experience or recommendations for bedding for college. Thanks.

Target , TJMaxx, Marshalls, JC Penneys have/will soon have XL sheets, comforters, what nots for your dorm.

Get 2-3 twin XL sheets (more if you plan on not doing laundry), a couple of pillows, and a down comforter. You may also want to get a light blanket to use instead of the comforter for the two weeks that it’s warm in Ithaca, and for the months when a comforter is not enough because it’s too darn cold.

It really wasn’t that cold in the dorm (I guess that may depend on your particular building, my son lives in Risley). He didn’t even look for his comforter until the middle of the winter. He forgot it was in the top of his closet (he had a really big closet that was across from his room, Risley has some quirky rooms). It also seems that he only ever used one or maybe two sets of sheets. He washed them and put them back on the bed. I still suggest at least an extra set or two. His third set was still in a crate, never used. This past winter was somewhat mild. YMMV.

My son just donated his comforter to Goodwill, after two years of not using it in the dorms. He did use his blanket, LOL. Could be premature – he is moving into an apartment in a few weeks. Might not be as well heated … That’s what I get for trusting dad and son to move!

I don’t know, maybe it’s because I was in a really old dorm on the top floor and my heater was always broken, but I had lots of bedding haha.

My freshman year, I used a sheet and heavy blanket, with a comforter for the winter (partly because I was from California, partly because my bed was in a pretty cold spot in the room!). The next 2 years I haven’t used the heavy blanket and have been fine with a sheet and comforter, sometimes with a small light blanket on top when it gets really cold. As for getting the bedding, anywhere that sells twin XL sheets should be fine.

We found the comforter on Overstock.com. It seemed like most of the others we found in stores weren’t cotton. The finds on that site change constantly. It was a nice soft denim cover. Everything that came home is still in crates taking up the front of the house. I hope the college boy sorts through it soon to decide what actually needs to go back. He had far too much with him.

What about the Mat/Mattress or Foam for Bed? Should we have to purchase it or it will be provided by the authority ?

The bed frame and mattress is provided. If you are particular and you like your bed really plush, you could get a nice thick mattress cover to go on top. A standard mattress cover was sufficient for my son.
