Somebody asked about Marlboro. Since the visit area is down right now, I'll add my thoughts here. My family just had a tour and ate lunch on campus, so my impressions are very fresh.

First of all, the campus is teeny tiny. It's a collection of rather rambling white clapboard buildings set into a steep hillside. I think it must be hazardous to negotiate in the winter and early spring. The dining hall looks like that of an old fashioned summer camp- very well used cheapo tables and dingy metal folding chairs. The food was great from this Mom's point of view, several vegan choices and nice salad bar. My carnivorous son was not as pleased, though he had a full plate of rice and kielbasa. He is more of a burger and pizza type, and there was none to be had. Students are the worst dressed I have seen on any campus EVER... and almost all appear unwashed. Maybe they would wash more often if the bathrooms were not co-ed? :0) The classes are very intimate and heavy on discussion. There is no chance of getting lost in the crowd here! Everyone we spoke to was very friendly and the kids appeared to enjoy the independence of the Marlboro plan. It seems a great place for the self motivated, creative, and those unconcerned with mainstream culture. There is a very visible gay population; the next big event at Marlboro is the gay homecoming. My son was a little disappointed in the physical aspects of the school, but he is still planning to apply. Marlboro has been bumped down to number four or so on his short list, after being number two.
