Many of you who do not live in the East Coast are inclined to use a proxy in order to make your location in the early access area, while this may seem like a good idea, I thought I should warn about the dangers of using a free open proxy.

This why a proxy is able to spoof your location:
Without Proxy: YOU <----> TARGET SERVER (obviously i'm skipping intermediates, like a router or modem for simplicity)

With proxy: YOU<--->PROXY<--->TARGET SERVER . Your computer never communicates with the target server, instead the proxy acts like a middle man, exchanging web traffic and information. The TARGET SERVER (Collegeboard) is able to detect people location based on their public IP, and since the PROXY is sending your web traffic, The TARGET SERVER thinks you live where the PROXY lives.

Notice how I said the proxy controls your web traffic--- it does, and you may susceptible to variety of attacks while using a stranger's unknown proxy.

Know that many open proxies are controlled by HACKERS. Their goal is steal valuable information from unsuspecting people who are trying to mask their IP. Once you connect to the proxy, the hacker has an easy job and viewing your cookies, and can steal passwords, credit card info etc...

If you choose to use a proxy, after you check ur scores, I would disconnect from the proxy and change ur password.

Bottom Line: The chance of this happening, very slim. I doubt anything will happen.
Just thought you should know the dangers before connecting.

It makes teamviewer a lot more safe IMO..

Still not sure if the risk is worth getting them a day early, but if I do decide to use a proxy, are there any that you would recommend that you (or other people) generally have no problems with?

what is teamviewer and how do you use it?

I don’t trust teamview though

Teamviewer is peer-to-peer; it is not a proxy.

what is teamview? Is it the safest? What are the risks?

Teamviewer is a software that allows remote control of computers. It’s the most popular software in its industry, its highly respected. In this case teamviewer would allow someone who is not in the East coast to control someone’s computer who is. Then they could just log on to their CB account without exchanging any personal information. Of course, the person’s computer who you are teamviewing with would be able to see any personal information that you have. Atleast you can communicate with them, with proxies, you have no idea if its a hacker or a honey pot.

Anybody on the east coast willing to teamview for me? Not someone who just made a new account with 1 post though…

Some additional safety tips:

Do a hard reset of your browser before using the proxy. This will delete your cookies, password, and other material that a potential hacker could use.

Remember to take it off! It’s surely quite easy to forget about taking off the proxy after the rush from seeing your scores. As the OP said, chances of hacking are slim if you’re on and off quickly.

Remember to sign out! It’s possible for hackers to access your account even with a password change if you don’t

If your current password contains personal info, or is used for important things like a bank account, be sure to change your password before you use the proxy.

You can’t use proxy server?!?! I’m trying, but not working so far!

proxy’s are safe as long as you only go on the collegeboard website… just dont download anything
