befriending admissions counselor?

I've heard that it is a very good idea to become very close with the admissions counselors of a school you really want to attend. I was just wondering how does one do this? I've heard of people even having lunch with their counselors but I could not imagine ever asking a stranger to do that and I also don't want it to seem like i'm sucking up...
thoughts?

You’ve heard wrong. The ones that want relationships are the ones who are also courting you – the ones from out of the way colleges who don’t get many apps from your school. The popular colleges? no way

^ what he said.

Plus, it doesn’t help to “suck up” unless you are extremely close to them. So don’t even bother trying that method. It’s very overrated. People think if they are in good contact with the admissions officer that they will get in. In the end, it doesn’t affect your decision much at all. It’s of less significance than an interview.
