Hey, I'm a freshman at GWU (going to my safety school) and want to keep my options open in case I want to transfer after this year. I dont really have a counselor or any advice, so I was wondering what I should start doing in order to give myself the best chance to transfer this year, if i choose so. Please input. Thanks.

Keep your grades way up and get involved in activities that truly interest you. Give GWU a chance.

work really hard from day1 (starting tomorrow). hopefully you're not living in thurston or you'll be distracted all the time. don't go to all the welcome back events, they seem fun but you should be studying. don't eat in j-street. go to the gym as a nice break from everyhting. and start looking into the SAT scores and GPA's needed for transferring to certain schools.

I guess I should specify my questions and sorta list out some goals for myself:
1. get a high GPA
2. join clubs. any ideas?
3. get a job. any ideas?
4. do i need to take any standardized tests?
5. what should i do about teacher recommendations?
6. when do i actually have a chance to transfer?
7. what schools do i have a chance to get into?

Based on what most people have advised me, since I'm also a freshman looking to transfer, my answers are:

Join clubs that you're truly interested in. Academic, service, special interest, whatever, as long as you can make a difference and be more than a number. Join different types of clubs if you're worried; at least you'll meet new people and make friends.

Get a job that won't jeopardise your GPA. The sky's the limit, but don't rule out jobs on campus.

That's really up to you. If you think your score isn't competitive enough or on par with the students your coveted schools of choice admit, then go for it. It doesn't really hurt to try.

Try to be on your professors' good side fall semester. If you do the work for the class and have a good attitude, when you ask them for recommendations in the fall, they'll have little reason to deny you a good recommendation.

If I'm reading your question correctly, I would guess that would depend on the school and which semester/school year you're applying for.

I don't know your stats, but even if I did, admissions is quite a crapshoot process, somewhat of a game of chance. It can't really be guaranteed.
