How is it to be a Christian at Tufts? What are the opportunities to join Christian Groups? Do students who are Christian go to church? Is there any interaction with other Christians around Boston? My daughter's first option for colleges is Tufts but Christianity is a big part of her life. How would she fit in at Tufts in terms of her faith? Thank you!

As with most liberal east coast colleges, Christians aren’t the majority (I think 1/3 of Tufts is Jewish and 1/3 is atheist/agnostic). However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t opportunities for Christians. Tufts has a Christian Fellowship and a specifically Christian a capella group. There are probably more groups too, but those are the ones I know of. I can’t answer your question about church, only that there are both Catholic and Protestant services held every Sunday (as well as Jewish and Muslim services Saturday and Friday). An acquaintance of mine is in the Christian a capella group (Anchord) and absolutely loves it. Everyone here is extremely tolerant, and religion usually doesn’t even come up when getting to know someone. I don’t at all think she’d have a problem fitting in. There is, of course, the drinking culture, but as I’m sure you’re aware, that would be found at any school and is not specific to Tufts.

From what I hear, the school is very tolerant. As for drinking, there are definitely people who don’t drink and Christian groups that get together and obviously don’t drink.

I have also heard that the University champlain will actually help you find a religious center if the ones on campus don’t suffice or whatever. That’s pretty open if you ask me. But they have Protestant and Catholic services every Sunday and there are Christian Groups on campus. Again, the school is very tolerant.

Tufts Christian Fellowship is really active, and seems to be a really welcoming community for a lot of freshmen. They do a biweekly large group discussion and worship, as well as weekly small discussion groups, plus retreats, service trips, bible study groups, etc. Definitely contact them (at [Tufts Christian Fellowship](http://ase.tufts.edu/tcf/Welcome.html)) if you have questions, everyone I’ve met who is involved in the fellowship is extremely friendly.

Thank you all for the information! I think she will fit right in. She is tolerant to different religions and has many friends who are not Christian. She also doesn’t want to go to a college where everyone thinks the same, as this would not enhance her life experience. She enjoys bible study, retreats, mission trips and she will love the a Capella groups. About the drinking in college, it does not bother her at all as she knows people drink in college as they drink in high school too! she has friends who don’t drink and friends who drink, and she respects their choices. I’ll tell her about the great information you all shared with me, and I am sure she will enjoy the tufts Christian fellowship group. Thank you again!

Sounds like she might really enjoy Tufts! Tufts Christian Fellowship has so many opportunities to get involved. There are multiple weekly bible studies as well as campus-wide events that discuss topics like social justice and missions. There’s also a Christian a capella group here, Anchord, that is getting pretty good. As for drinking… It isn’t a big deal if you don’t make it a big deal. There are plenty of people who don’t drink and it isn’t seen as some big, dramatic life choice. Overall, Christians here are super friendly and enjoy interfaith events or other likeminded events that bring different groups together.
