Being a club president for more than one year?

I was just wondering if colleges like to see if you are the president of a club for more than 1 year. Do they know how long you have been in a club or service? How do they evaluate this? --sorry for over generalizing, but the colleges I am referencing are Ivy-Leagues, like Harvard or Yale.

I am going to be the president of a club at my school (BPA) but my teacher says that I shouldn’t go this(next) year and that I should go the year after instead. She basically said that she would ensure my position as president for my third year in the club (I am on my first year, the next school year will be my second). The only concern I see with that is that then I would only be the president for one year and I was wondering if I should try to get 2 years especially if I am looking at Ivy-League schools?

Thanks for all the help.

I think you should be president for all 4 years… Colleges like to see consistency and commitment

Colleges expect that you would join clubs Freshman year and participate…working up to leadership positions Junior year. You may think you are ready to lead, but your teacher may see what you don’t about others who could lead more effectively and what you still have to learn.

Remember: You are the most mature you have ever been, but your teacher has more perspective.
