OK, I want to be nurse when I'm older,so first don't you go to a 4 yr college and major in something, THEN go to nursing school? well, if so what am I supposed to major in (biology, early childhood, etc.) Any answers will help. Thanks!

Most colleges offer a BSN program which would mean you major in nursing. There is also the option of obtaining your RN first, which you can normally get at either a community college or specialized hospital and then continue classes at a university for a BSN. After completing the BSN, you may go on for a MSN and then a post-MSN certification to become a nurse practitioner (terminology appears to be somewhat regional).

My younger sister is currently going to a community college for her RN (the local U doesn't offer the BSN program without having an RN) and then completing the BSN at the local U. Afterwards, she plans to work and go back to school part-time to become a nurse practitioner.

I would look for a college with a good/great medical school, it will give you a great opportunity for internships while in nursing school and give you a jump start on starting your career.

Hope that helps, it's not my area of specialty, but my finace's mother is a nurse practitioner and as I said my sister is going to school for nursing.

There are a few very fine nursing programs that require a BA/BS in something other than nursing prior to entering their program
2 come quickly to mind:

Case Western Reserve--has a doctorate of nursing program--it is clinically focused and a great program...

Mass General Hospital School of Health Professions--has nursing programs for folks with degrees in liberal arts etc
