being deferred sucks

does anyone know why so many people were deferred EA this year????

There is a thread in the yale forum called "Deferred!!" where all of us unworthy folk can congregate. I'm pretty sure the Yale 2011 forum is for those who are actually Yale 2011s :(
But yeah, they have always deferred a large number of early applicants (last year I think it was 53%? Correct me if I'm wrong.) It's just a way for them to keep their yield up...they know we all want to go to Yale since we applied early...if they keep us in the process, and they don't find enough RD applicants to accept who want to come, we are that group they can depend on to accept their offers. And also, there are no guarantees on the quality of this year's RD pool, so they want to keep as many applications active as possible so they can compare them...it's a manipulative trick that allows them to have it both ways :(

But these are just my speculations. I might be totally off, I don't have any credibility. I didn't even get into Yale.

Us deferrees should start our own facebook group!

F-THAT!!! i start a deferral group wherever i please!!! I still have my pride you know....

Actually, a lot of people were accepted early this year. About 20% of the applicant pool.

I think he means why not a flat-out rejection. I think the whole yield issue is the main determinant.
