Hi!
So next month I’m going to be featured as an ‘up and coming teen scientist’ in a very popular STEM magazine. Two questions:
- How much, if at all, would this help my applications? Would it be on par with any other EC or would it be a bit better? Or would they not care?
- How should I make sure adcoms know this? Which section would I write it in? How would I phrase it?
Thanks!!
send them tear sheets [ copies] of the article, and mention it in the honors/ section above the EC 's that got you this recognition…
It certainly wont HURT to mention this achievement!
Many colleges want kids who have achieved national recognition for commitment to an interest.
Congrats!

I don’t know that it will have impact particularly because the important part is the stuff you do–not being written about. So focus on listing the stuff you do that got you noticed and they will certainly notice that. My dd was in a magazine about her work, but it was an article she wrote, and her GC sent it off to her colleges, which was a nice way to get it to them without piling on extra papers yourself (the thicker the file, the thicker the student, lol.)
@BrownParent - Of course the focus is always on the activity! I was just wondering whether it would give that activity more clout, to be selected.
So, I should ask my GC to send in a copy of the article - when would be the ideal time to do that?
when you submit the applications.
why does your GC have to do it?
@menloparkmom - BrownParent recommended I not submit a tear sheet myself as it would be too much. What do you think?
I would not submit the article yourself, however, definitely mention it on your app. I’d put it in the additional information section.
I’d put it in the additional information section.
