Being gay an admission helper?

Someone once told me that if you are gay and include that in your application that it can help in admissions. is that true?

Very untrue. No more than being a Jew or Moslem would help you. If this was the case every Tom, Dick and Harry would be coming out of the closet for a week. The only place this might help you would be at Oberlin.

not to mention every Jane, Sally or Beth.....

althought it might actually help to be Moslem. It would add to the diversity, imo

N.B.: it's generally spelled Muslim. The pronunciation for Moslem can resemble a word similar to oppression in Arabic, so it's not commonly used anymore.

http://hnn.us/articles/524.html

Yeah... but I highly doubt there are any Moslems at Brown. You could say that you are the founder of the Moslem religion, that might get you in.

There is a huge Muslim and queer population at Brown. Draw your own conclusions about that.

not both Muslim and queer population -- Muslim population and queer population, separately. I haven't met a gay Muslim yet, but I'm sure there are a few here.

just clarifying

Is the whole gay thing more prominent in guys? Like to the point that the male female ratio is very good for guys? My cousin went to a school like that, it sounded good.

I'm not sure what exactly are you asking ungst? Could you please clarify a little?

Lol, this thread is unintentionally hilarious.

I'm guessing ungst is asking if every guy at Brown is gay, so that means there are more females available for him to seduce.

I think he wants to know if homosexual men are more common than homosexual women at Brown. Because the more gay men there are at Brown, the more women there are for every straight guy. Women already outnumber men at Brown, but only by a little bit.

lol... this thread is hilarious

wait so being muslim and being gay would advantage you considerably then? dammit knew i shouldve written an essay on the oc

on the cornell app, it asks for gender, and on the drop down list, it has "male, female, and other" and i hear it helps a lot to put other, and they won't ask for any proof, cuz that's...well, obvious. i didnt do it, but i think that's kinda funny. watch next year's applicants have like...thousands of others. lol

joev, on what basis do you say that about Oberlin? That's a ridiculous statement and can't be left unchallenged.

You always should find an essay topic that is unique. Homosexuality is a topic that is more likely to be considered unique than "I went to Africa last year to build a house."

It really depends on your take on the issue and how you express yourself.

How are you going to let them know that you're gay?
I mean, you can't add a random sentence at the end of your essay saying "By the way, I'm a homo-sexual".
And they don't have a question saying "Are you a homo-sexual?". Yes/No

It's a reasonable question. Middlebury has affirmative action for LGBTs, and Claremont McKenna has hinted that it might follow.
