Being Jewish and Happy Holidays

just an fyi, Hanukkah ended 10 days ago. Saying happy holidays is, as a result, no more PC than saying Merry Christmas, because our New Years was in September, and therefore we have no holidays coming up, and making that assumption is Christian-centric.

There’s always Easter.

waitwut?

Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten about Kwanzaa.

Happy Martin Luther King Day.

Sucks to be you bro. Suck it up. I tell my Muslim friends “happy holidays” all the time.

Hahahaahahahaha.

Is it true the during Christmas, Jews, Muslims, Asians, Atheists, and Agnostics, come together and celebrate? Cause I always hear about this.

^^^Certainly…they all go out to Chinese restaurants and then go to the movies in droves. You should know that if you live in NYC and are a real New Yorker.

Seriously, though, to the OP…when I hear “happy holidays”, as a Jew, I think “happy holiday season”…which therefore includes Hanukkah (whether if has passed or not) as well as New Year’s, which most Jews do celebrate.

^^^^^ I’ve had to go to Indian restaurants on Christmas because all the up-and-up Chinese places are filled. It’s an experience going on facebook on Christmas and seeing more “movies and Chinese food” posts than “Merry Christmas” posts.

“Happy Holidays” just goes in one ear and out the other by now because I’m so used to hearing it.

Most of my Jewish friends still say Merry Christmas… and they get their friends Christmas presents… and they wear Santa hats and everything.

I always say Merry Christmas. It shouldn’t be offensive.

Especially seeing as how plenty of atheists celebrate Christmas and Christmas is derived from a pagan holiday anyways.

I’m Pagan. We have Yule on December 21. I personally don’t give two craps what anyone says, but there are PLENTY of holidays right now (Christmas, Yule, New Years, etc) that people can wish happy holidays to. It’s not JUST Christmas and Hanukkah. So… who cares? Get over it. Happy freaking holidays. Merry Christmas. Happy Yule. Happy New Years.

If you have an issue with someone wishing you a happy anything then that says a lot about you.

Rawr.

Why not “Happy Holidays” during Holy Week/Passover/Easter, then? Easter is more important in Christianity, and I’m pretty sure Passover is pretty important in Judaism. Then again, it’s only the candy companies that have hijacked Easter, and not as many as have with Christmas.

^^I didn’t know about Yule, thank can shut people up.

I don’t get it, why is Kwanzaa always ignored?

Because Kwanzaa was a made-up holiday that has no religious backing.

EDIT: I should note, before I get flamed, I have no issues with Kwanzaa.

But the majority of holidays in this time period are religious and have a very long stance. Kwanzaa was made in 1966 and isn’t religious. My opinion as to why it’s ignored. =/

^No one really celebrates it. Lol. I’m black, and I don’t know anyone who celebrates Kwanzaa.

^None of my black friends celebrate it either. XD

I just didn’t want to sound offensive. haha

Those * black * people…the ones that want to be in-tune with their african roots.

My roommate from Cameroon doesn’t either, idk if that means anything though

I consider New Years to be a part of the holiday season

^^Well, technically, it’s an “African-American” (black people descended from slaves) thing, not an actual African thing.
