would you be kind of friendless and left out if you didn't join a sorority at Duke?

i personally think sororities are dumb and i really don't want to join one

i personally think sororities are dumb and i really don't want to join one

i'm a guy, so take what i say with a few grains of salt...no. the sororities at duke are quite informal from what i know. they do NOT live together. they serve as a type of social club. also, the sorority rush/pledging is not until second semester (as is fraternity rush/pledging) and, therefore, you have the entire 1st semester to meet people, make friends, and great relationships. it should not be a probelm if you don't want to join a sorority. 42% of females at duke pledge a sorority - 58% do not.

Yeah, I mean, the fact that they don't live together is huge. I'm personally not in a sorority, and have my own group of friends that I hang out with all the time. 2 or 3 are in a sorority...the rest aren't...and it really doesn't matter. The girls in sororities make time for their sisters, and us, so it's totally fine.

If you don't go greek, you can still go out and have a great time. I've never felt affected by the fact that i'm independent.

I know two Melanies at Duke who aren't in sororities and have a fun time! Go Melanies!

And no, being in a sorority won't limit your social life.
