Being minority = greater chance of acceptance?

AHANA

http://www.bc.edu/admission/undergrad/studentsofcolor/ahanaadmission/

Does this mean that BC is going to consider Asians as URM?

FRESHMAN CLASS 2005
AHANA STUDENT POPULATIONS

Black or African American: 7%
Asian American: 10%
Hispanic: 8%
Native American: < 1%

Overall AHANA: 26%

There always seems to be so few Native Americans. Do they not apply or do they not make up a very large percentage of the population?

(international here... please excuse the ignorence)

It's a combination of both, when settlers came the need for land led to wars (also lots of diseases wiped out millions of Native Americans.) Then we stuck the few survivors on horrible land and pretty much oppressed them until F.D.R. took over as prez and helped them out a little (mid 1930's.) But it's still pretty bad and a lot of white people near the reservations are still racist (at least according to my old hist. prof. who lived there for a couple years.)

shiiiit, i purposely didnt check the asian ethnicity box on my apps... didnt know asians were acually URMs at BC...

asians are definitely URMs. AHANA=
African-
Hispanic-
ASIAN-
Native-
American

awesome, so I guess it would be a + to apply ..

does anyone know how much being AHANA would help?

hopefully a lot since i am ..hehe :)

^^^^Word up!!!

do you think they would view me as asian, seeing as how my personal statement is all about my grandfather in india.... bc i left the ethnicity section blank

They will definitely see that you are biologically Asian, but if you don't proclaim your Asian, then perhaps affirmative action wouldn't work for you.
I am not a committee member, but I hope this helps a bit.

i wouldnt sweat it. if its in the essay theyll see it. does anyone know what the admit rate for AHANA is vs non-AHANA?

adidaBC, are you black, Latino or Asian?

i'm asian (adopted) and my parents are inter-racial (black-white), so basically i am mixed up :)

thaswusup!
I'm Puerto Rican, from the hood, baby!

whatever ..puerto ricans are all mixed up too :P

"whatever ..puerto ricans are all mixed up too :P" That isn't an offensive response, right?

no way, i mean you are a mix too ... like me. except at a more "evolved state" of mixture ... make sense??

Yeah we are "all mixed up." We are a tri--racial people!
We are of Taino Indian, African, and Spanish ancestry!!! We have a very rich culture. And we love our Black folk. You fall under that umbrella because you were raised by a black parent.

since we are 'tri-racial' hopefully well get a three-times better chance of getting into Boston College :)

You're a funny dude! You made me laugh out loud. I hope we are three times more likely to be accepted!
