Being on Georgia Tech's Transfer Wait List

still on the wait list :(

Sigh I got waitlisted too…for the 2nd time (first time being last year when I applied as a freshman). I’m Asian and I applied for EE with a 3.6 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 math/science GPA and I met/exceeded all of the requirements to transfer. My friend who is Persian applied for Comp. Media with only a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a 3.0 math/science GPA and he got in. I guess it is by major, else what other reason could it be that he got in and I didn’t (even given my superior stats). Either that…or it’s because I’m Asian (but I’m doubting that).

Either way, this is the second time I’ve been burned by this school and I’m not going to bet on getting in by the waitlist. It’s just a nice way of Tech saying “oh too bad you’re not good enough so we’re going to put you on this limbo list and wait a month (while killing you from waiting) and then just deny you when we could’ve just denied you in the first place”. I mean…c’mon! Ugh…I guess either this school really doesn’t want me attending or I’m not meant to go there. Regardless, my dad is going to be so disappointed when I tell him that I got waitlisted…again. ■■■.

Oh well, I guess looking at the positive side, we didn’t get flat out denied. We might still have chance (albeit a small chance) of getting in! I guess we can cling to that? GL to all of you on the waitlist and here’s to hoping that we all get what we want/need! :)

Why don’t you just do RETP Aznboy? Another year(ish) to wait doesn’t sound too bad. I would bet that more credits = easier to get in. That seems to be the trend at most other schools. I think their thought process is this: anyone can go into overdrive for a semester or two, but it’s probably a better sign if you get consistently good grades for longer. Either way, you’re probably high on the wait list with your GPA, assuming you calculated it the same way Tech calculated it and aren’t exaggerating it on these boards (let’s face it, some people totally exaggerate their stats on CC, especially after being waitlisted or denied to a school.

Yeah maybe I should’ve. Oh well…if I don’t get in this Fall, I’ll just boost my math/science GPA next semester by retaking Physics II and doing Calc III (I already have Physics II credit via AP Physics C: Emag exam with a 4). I’m going to SPSU ATM and I guess it’s not that bad of a school, it’s just my parents are going to be über disappointed. And yep I’m seriously about my GPA. It’s legit (rounded off to nearest decimal) and I calculated it like Tech would’ve. I guess in hindsight I shouldn’t of slacked in Calc II and Linear Algebra. Getting Bs in those classes is probably why I didn’t get in…

@aznboy Hows spsu? That is my plan B since I got accepted to there already, but I hear EE for their school is not accredited correct? I currently go to GPC atm…and I REALLY want to go to Tech.I’m in the same boat as you bro, parents are going to be disappointed as well… RETP is probably my last option though, unless I should retake the classes I have C’s in for a semester and reapply for Spring 2013.

I honestly don’t know what I should do =/ . Anybody want to give me some advice please?

SPSU is not a bad school, per se. Yes, I believe the EE program isn’t accredited yet due to them not having a graduate yet (however, I do believe by Spring 2013 they will have a graduate). I honestly don’t mind going to SPSU for another semester (I’ll just take Calc III and work full time, or Calc III and Physics II just to boost my GPA), but I don’t want to disappoint my parents (and they are giving me a few perks for going to Tech). You could also do RETP if you don’t think you can make it (i.e. your GPA isn’t high enough). I have like a 3.6 and I only got two Bs (Calc II and Linear Algebra), but those two Bs probably ruined my math/science GPA which ultimately killed my GPA. I would recommend you to just go to SPSU for another semester and boost up that GPA (i.e. get a 4.0) and then reapply at Tech for Spring 2013. I did hear it was less competitive Spring semester. Best of luck my friend, and may the odds be ever in your favor! :)

I’m currently at Georgia Perimeter…you think I should go to SPSU just for a semester? Or just retake the classes at Georgia Perimeter for one semester and apply in the spring?

And me either man, it kills not to get accepted…feels like I’m not accomplishing anything. Still can’t believe you didnt get accepted with that GPA of yours.

But how many credits do you have right now anyways?? I’ve taken alot, earned like 82 hours already at Georgia Perimeter. RETP is probably going to take another year as well since I haven’t taken any engineering classes yet besides Matlab.

Computer Science here. My file is currently “under review” after being asked for Spring grades which they just received today.

I didn’t think much of it at the time but knowing there is a waitlist I’m becoming concerned. As of right now I will be attending USC but sure hope GA Tech pulls through with a decent FA package as it is my top choice.

Just got put on the wait list today (or maybe yesterday because I stopped checking daily). I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed. I have a 3.73 overall and a 3.72 in math/sciences. I’m guessing mechanical engineering is probably a pretty popular major for transfer, but I easily meet the in-state requirements (and out of state, not that it matters). Maybe it’s because I applied after my freshman year? I only have 30 hours, not including my AP’s. When I went to a transfer information session this spring, they told everyone there that if they met the minimum requirements, acceptance was almost guaranteed. I guess they’re going to have to stop telling people that after this year.

Well, I’m asian on the same wait list with you guys, applying to the mech engineering, I have got overall 3.92 and 3.98(around that, just got one B+).

So are they really going to accept some of us?
who has got accept after they being on this list??

Btw, Is this really the first year for “transfer wait list”?

@franklam thats what they said when I called, and dang your gpa is high and you are still on the wait list? Wow…how many credits do you have may i ask?

@illestfa5 i think so, still on the wait list. has transferable credit around 7X.( without the prep things.)
And just find out the mistake, i have got two B+ on my Math and Science part, my bad:)

Hmm just to give a little insight (genuinely not trying to be rude) I do remember them saying at a transfer orientation that they don’t take +/- scale into account when evaluating your gpa because they don’t use it at tech. Meaning A is 4.0 points, B is 3.0, etc. I don’t know if this makes your situation any clearer but I hope so.

Good luck guys! & please post any good news!

I talked to some transfer lady today and she said that they had 2000 applicants for 500 spots, hence the first time that there has been a transfer waitlist.

She also said “Once we have an understanding of our numbers, then we will know if we are able to take students off the wait list. If we do go to the wait list, we will notify you of your status.”

Does anyone know when admission deposits are due?

@atlBrandon So what she is saying is that they have to remove students from the wait list first and then choose from there? I still don’t get how they will choose people by majors. It’s so confusing…This is crazy…so 25% of the wait list will get in then, if that’s the case.

Was she estimating the # of applicants and spots available?

she was talking about 2000 transfer applicant not 2000 on the waitlist. there is probably 100 on the waitlist but i am not sure.

@johnlin oh…thats better then i guess. If it was 2000 on the waitlist, that’s crazy. I hope we will all get in though.

I would say that those who were put on the wait list, would immediately go to here and try their best to find out more info on this “transfer wait list”…I am sure google will take them here.

Hey Guys,

I was put on the Transfer Wait List about two weeks ago and Google brought me here. I am transferring from Ga Southern with a 3.53 GPA and the major I applied for is Architecture. I am really hoping that there are lots of people that were accepted but chose not to go there in the fall. When I contacted the transfer counselor she said that they did have more applications for Fall 2012 then they normally get.

@sandiegosand
thanks a lot for this info.:)

How’s everyone doing? I’m still checking my application status each and everyday lol…Any news or anything new? Please keep everybody up to date. Wish all of you the best!
