Being rescinded

all those things about being rescinded are about yale… (i’m not applying there) but is it “just” yale? <- thats kind of stupid to say but it seems like a trend…

and it was 1st semester that the kid bombed in the “yale parents thread” case. I’m not trying to slack off or anything I just want to do other things that i’m passionate about rather than learning about 3-d vector and all that ib hl nonsense

Bad plan. Wait till next year at your ivy school, where you can do B work and still get an A. :)

Look, I’m absolutely no expert, but I have 6 classes and up to now have gotten all As since sophomore year, and pretty consistently before then. Now, as a second-semester senior, while I’m still aiming for all As, I’m being much more relaxed about it. I tell myself I’ll “allow” myself to get three Bs. Any more than that I feel is really pushing it, but 3 is probably fine. Of course, it’s a risk, but I doubt you’d get rescinded for dropping to 3 Bs and 3 As. Basically I’m still trying to do well, but I’m prioritizing socializing and my TV fixes and other stuff above school work now. :D

I’d just like to say that I blame my drop in grades on SCII too.

bump i have decided that I will be the guinea pig for collegeconfidential. I’m going to get mainly all Bs. 1 A for SURE though lol

Have you been accepted to the school of your choice? Which member(s) of the Ivy League Sports Conference have you been referring to? You said not Yale, but didn’t specify otherwise. If you did, it would be easier to convince you not to be an idiot with specific examples.

lol… well i already got into berkeley, usc, uci. i’m pretty sure they wouldnt rescind me for a B. but i’m mainly looking at cornell and brown…

They wouldn’t rescind you for one B, but you just said you planned on almost all Bs. You plan on one A, but it’s easy to slip-up on a grade. When you only try hard in one class, then slip-up, you could end up with no As.

The University of California system is notorious for rescinding people. Further, it’s quite arrogant to plan on how much you can slack to keep an acceptance at schools that have yet to accept you.

At this point you should be past “looking at.” If you applied to Cornell and Brown, then you applied there. My advice is to keep up your grades as best you can. Colleges look at your last semester to make sure you’ll be taking college seriously now that you’ve gotten in (as opposed to think you can just coast through). Would Brown or Cornell or UCB or USC want a 3.17 GPA student? Because that’s what you are with 5 Bs and 1 A. Slip up a little, it becomes the 3.0 of 6 Bs or 1 A, 4 Bs, and a C. Slip up a lot, well… Not good.

Why would you want to risk your college acceptances?

I think theres a bit of a bias in the responses to this thread.

If the OP came in and posted something along the lines of “Oh no!! I got three B’s after getting accepted to [ivy league school]. Oh whatever will I do??” most people would reply telling them to shut up and stop worrying over nothing.

There are horror stories but in all likelihood getting a few (or many) B’s isn’t going to lead to being rescinded.

are you sure all Bs merit being rescinded? and i’m not trying to be arrogant. i’m just wondering. and i know for sure that i’m not going to get As in 2 classes. i hate the teacher and i had to kiss his ass to get an A first semester

^ also… i just talked to a cal regent scholar and they said as long as you get all Bs its fine… even for the regent scholarship…

well, as you are NOT an adcom, perhaps you should be more clear by writing “if I were an adcom, I would” …

BUMP!!! Soooo I got accepted into cornell, rice, chicago. would any of these schools rescind me for 2 As 4Bs?

hey guys i got accepted into u of chicago, rice, cornell. would any of these schools rescind for 4 Bs and 2 As?

I got a C my 2nd semester (granted it was in AP Physics) and didn’t get rescinded from my top-20 school. No excuses, I was just lazy. The college never brought it up.

No, you won’t be rescinded.
