I'm in danger of getting a D in pre-calc even though I just don't understand it. I've been getting A's-B's every math class except this one. I'm doing bad for a variety of reasons I won't bring up here lol... Anyways, what course of action would you guys recommend? I have about a 72.92% right now, and I'm REALLY scared it might drop down. I still have a month before finals in which atleast 1 test and probably a 1 quiz will occur.

Anyways, I'm planning on talking to my teacher tomorrow as a start, should I and I would I contact UCSC to tell them about it, maybe warn them and explain why I'm having this trouble?

You still have time to bring up your grade. On the same note, you still have time to bring that grade down as well.

First thing to do is talk to your teacher and get extra help ASAP. For added reassurance, maybe find a tutor or some friends who can help you out. I’m not sure if you want to contact UCSC right now, but you can call them and ask them what might happen in the case you get a D. Warning them won’t really help your case if that was your intention, though.

My son was in just about the same predicament last yr. He had a D on his progress report for pre-calc. He talked to his teacher, she just said “Do well on the final and quiz” (she didn’t give extra credit assignments). He emailed UCSC and told them his concern of possibly getting a D as a final semester grade. They emailed him back stating that they cannot make any decisions until they see his final grade. Anyway…he studied like mad…super long nights! He did very well on the final and ended the yr with a C+. But it was stressful, to tell the truth.

You should email ucsc. I believe the email is myapplication@ucsc.edu
Include your Student ID Number as well as a complete list of your first semester classes and grades as well as grades on any midterms/progress report grades you might have right now.

I would do that soon and see if you can get this worked out before May 1st.

Just try your best :D, set more time for pre-calc and you should get to a C at least. Talk to your teacher and negotiate, or get some tutoring or ask questions during lunch for clarification :D. If you have AP exams, focus on those first though -.-, then do precalc :D.

Hope all goes well, and do what aleiram51 just said :D.

I know how you feel. >.< Ended first semester of AP Calculus with an A. Then I did miserably on the exams. My grade is at a D+. With only one more month left… I talked to my teacher about it (discussing my miserable grade, conditions of admission for UCSC, etc), and she let me know we only had a project or two to go into our final grade. Note: AP course so after the AP exam, there aren’t many if at all assignments to do. So I’m on thin ice. I’m PRAYING if I get an A on the project will raise it to a C. We won’t have finals either. ;__;

I suggest talking with your teacher…

Seriously, email ucsc with the info I said earlier. That’s what admissions says is the best course of action.

I had a D in precal too and i emailed them, they decided to not revoke my admissions so, as long as you’re doing fine now and have a plan to do something about the grade, you probably won’t be kicked out. But they do send a letter to you letting you know about their decision and it scared the hell outta me haha.

Is it just a D they care about or does a C- apply as well. Or do the plus and minuses not matter?
