Being Selected for Spring instead of Fall

If I applied for Fall 2012 for University of Maryland College Park and I don't get in do they automatically defer me and try me for Spring 2012? or do I have to apply again for Spring?

and can someone explain wait-listing to me?

If i don't get into Fall 2012 do they wait-list me or is it when you dont get into either semester the college wait-lists you?

What If I get rejected for Early action and then again I get rejected for fall 2012? That means I Wont get in for Spring 2012?

Applying for Fall 2012 does not mean you have applied for the Spring 2013 semester. They do offer some who apply for fall the option to start in spring. The decison you will get if you apply Fall 2012 is admit, deny, deferred (waitlisted) to May for decison after all others have responded to offer of admission, or that you will only be admitted if you start in Spring 2013. They reject large numbers and if rejected, you are done; you cannot apply for spring semester because you cannot reapply until the next year. It does not have early action. It has a priority date sytem. If you apply by Nov 1 you will get decison toward end of January but that will be your final decison unless waitlisted to May.

Another question. Is it easier to get in if I apply to Spring semester rather than fall?are my chances greater?

Officejet: Are you up to speed on Freshman Connection at UMD? Some less-than-top applicants - but still qualified - get into UMCP fall semester through this program, rather than waiting til spring. It’s a nice option. You do not apply directly; some are just given this option, which involves living off campus first semester.
