Belmont U-My Dream school vs. uconn

Hi,

So Belmont U is my dream school and uconn is just a school that I was forced to apply to because of my parents. I got accepted into the UCONN Hartford campus. There are no dorms there and I really don't want to go there because I will not be living the college experience. There's nothing for me in CT and there's endless opportunities for me in Nashville. I want to be a musician and a entrepreneur and Belmont U has the major, unlike many colleges out there. I'm also a strong Christian and Belmont is known for that too.

The thing is Belmont is expensive and UCONN with my in-state tution is not. Should I go ahead with my dreams and go to Nashville or stay in CT? I don't want to stay in CT and regret not going to Belmont.

Thanks

If it is financially feasible, I’d say go to Belmont hands down. How much of a strain is it going to put on your family if you go to Belmont? I’m not a fan of the Hartford campus (I’m from CT).

I’m not sure about the merit aid yet because I’m still waiting from a decision from Belmont, but they wrote in a letter there were many good things about my application and they wanted to help me strengthen my academic profolio. I just needed to get my SAT up and my scores are coming in next week.

My parents just want me to go to a CT college because of costs. I know that’s important, but I think what’s more important is chasing my dreams and being happy in a campus that I know I will love.

I know being in Belmont for just one year would change my life.

You need to sit down with your parents and talk about the money situation. Yes, Belmont is your dream school, but in the end your family financial situation will dictate where you can study. Every parent wants their children to be able to attend the college/university that is the best academic and social fit. However, many times we have to settle for the institution that is the best financial fit.

While you are waiting to hear about your financial aid packages at UConn and Belmont, take some time to figure out what your likely Cost of Attendance would be at each place. Search the websites of each university for the Cost of Attendance, and then add in figures for books, personal expenses, local travel (if you would commute from home), and long distance travel (if you would live on campus). When you do get your financial aid packages, use your own estimates to figure out what your true costs would be.

Good luck!

I hope you can come to Belmont. You will love it in Nashville and will love Belmont.
