So who’s been accepted to Beloit and is pretty sure they are going to attend next year?
What dorms are you thinking about staying in?
Are you going to the Senior Open House in April?

I’m pretty much 99% sure that I am going to Beloit. I filled out the dorm information the other day. My choices were 1. 840 College 2. Porter-Whitney 3. Peet

And yes, I am going to the Senior Open House. Can’t wait to finally meet all the people and see the campus.

Congratulations! Beloit is a great school. My daughter is a very happy sophomore. She knew from the first time she visited campus that it was the place she wanted to be.

What is the food like? What is the best and worst meal you have had thus far?
What is the overall dating atmosphere like? More hook-ups or dating?
What was your average workload as a freshman (just name the typical amount and type of homework assignments)?
How open-minded are the people at Beloit? Is it truly an “anything goes” place?

I have more, but I don’t want to bombard you with like 20+ questions. haha

Food is well… boring. It is not necessarily bad, but it gets repetitive and isn’t super flavorful. However, its not horrible either. There are a lot of options, such as the full sandwich bar (custom sandwiches every lunch and dinner), always two soups, salad bar and cereal bar. Additionally there is usually one or two meat options, one or two vegetarian options and a vegan options. Three times a week they have the “fresco grill” where they will cook a meal in front of you, just for you, with a theme, such as pasta, stirfry, etc. The best meals are Chicken Tender night, Hamburger Bar, Steak night, ribs, PASTA PASTA PASTA (in which there is a pasta bar), etc. You can usually avoid bad looking meals. You definitely won’t starve. There is also DKs and Java Joint. DKs is a grill like place which makes burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries etc. Java Joint is a coffee place that also has soup and sandwiches for lunch.

Dating:

Mix of hook and long term relationships. It depends on what you want. Most people that hook up are into going out on friday and saturday to parties. At the same time many people have steady significant others.

Workload:

Varies. I can’t give you the average. Most classes you will work hard, especially once you get out of introductory courses. There is no average amount of work, just know you will stay busy.

Open-minded

Overall Beloit is very open minded about gender, sexuality, race, etc. Students are very live and let live. Most students identify as “liberal” (meaning socially progressive, fiscally apathetic). I would like to see more conservatives, though there is a solid amount of libertarians.

I got in too! It’s on my short list of schools and I can’t wait to visit in April!
The only thing that I’m still waiting on is my complete financial aid package, which will (sadly) be the ultimate decision of where I attend.
But Beloit is consistently praised for its generous aid right? =)

SmallCollegesFTW: Thank you so much. Just a few more.

What are the bathrooms like? Are they clean? What is the bathroom setup?
How welcoming are the current students to freshman?
What is the average Friday night for a Beloit student?
I heard the '64 halls are very dingy looking. How bad are they really? What makes them so bad?

Occitzer: Yeah, I’m still waiting for mine as well. I think they come out in late March or early April. And even though I’m pretty sure I’m going to Beloit, that could easily change at the aid package. But they are known for giving out hefty amounts of aid. They are the Princteon Review’s rankings for Most Generous Aid. So we’ll see.

And I can’t wait to visit in April either. It will be my first time on campus but I already know I will love it.

What’s the town of Beloit like?? I’ve heard so many mixed things

some people say it’s really quaint and safe and others say its really sketchy at night and the town and school don’t get along and things like that.

When I visited Beloit last April, it seemed that at 5:00pm everything closed for the day! Maybe that’s just my own ignorance that comes from not growing up in a small town but it seemed a little weird to me.

I go to BC, as for the town? get a car. its super sketch, and unsafe. but you dont really have to worry about that because you’ll rarely leave campus unless you bring a car with you.
on dating: it depends who you hang out with, the frat guys have one thing in mind… and if their not trying to get down your pants its because they have a girlfriend back home. They’re fun to hang out with, just dont try to date them. As for the rest of the campus, im not really sure, it seems like i see a bunch of couples.
Beloit is awesome when it comes to open mindedness, no matter what you do, how you look, you can guarantee to find friends on this campus. its so welcoming to all types of people.
and concerning freshman: i’ve come up with a theory here, as long as you dont act like you’re in highschool (even though BC sometimes seems like HS part 2 with all the drama and everyone knowing everyones buisness) every student here is basically the same age, people dont look at you and think “freshman” so dont be nervous, plus you have a whole week to hang out with just freshman so you can make friends.
dorms: 840 is fullllll of drama, usually have the people living there move out. a lot of **** goes down in 840 (my favorite an “84orgy”) Peet is… different. i dont know much about it, ive been there once for malt monday… it typically where the hipsters live. and Porter… is well, porter, nothing to really say about it. it’s a 64 hall, they’re not the most aesthetically pleasing, but they’re in a good location, i would check out brannon or chapin or aldrich if i were you, those are good freshman dorms.
overall, Beloit is like a person, either you get along great, or you dont. People usually have strong feelings for beloit, whether they are good or bad. definitely visit before you make your decision.

Out of Brannon, Chapin, and Aldrich, which one is the best dorm?

Also, what about food in the surrounding area? If campus food is mediocre I need to be able to seek refuge in the town. =/

Last one, what is the overall happiness level of the students? Are most students ecstatic to be there or is half the student population less than thrilled?

Hey there fellow Beloit pals! I just sent in my 500 cash dollars/housing stuff! It’s officially official…so question time…how are the bathrooms/showers? Are they scummy? Also, if I sent in my housing stuff yesterday am I basically guaranteed to have a ****ty dorm?

Re restaurants: There are a couple of decent soup/sandwich places in town, including a spot just off-campus that sells fruit smoothies and a good cup of coffee. Although there are chain-type restaurants on Milwaukee road, there is not a vast selection of restaurants within walking distance of campus (at least not that I’m aware of).

Re the dorms: Before freshman year, my daughter spent some time pondering which dorm to choose, but once she reached campus, it became clear that the dorm amenities don’t matter a whole lot. Big room, small room, new bathroom, old bathroom…it all took a back seat to the “real” stuff: good chemistry with the roommate, friendly floor neighbors, an excellent library to study in, and lots of events all over campus that eventually made her dorm room pretty much just a place to sleep at night. If Beloit “clicks” for you, you probably won’t think much about the size of the closet or the condition of the bathroom after the first day.

Re overall happiness at Beloit: My daughter is extraordinarily happy there. But then she’s a happy person. As with most things in life, what you get out of Beloit will depend in part on the temperament you bring with you.

That is very true Mary13. I’m sure this will all take a backseat to the quality of the people at Beloit. However, I think it can only add to my experience =]

A few more questions (I’m loaded with them haha):

How many days of the week do Beloit Students have class? I know this will probably vary from person to person, but on average would you say class is an everyday thing or is more like a few days a week?

And how much time does a Beloit Student spend on homework? Once again, I know this will probably vary but can you somehow give me an average amount of time?

How many days of the week do Beloit Students have class? I know this will probably vary from person to person, but on average would you say class is an everyday thing or is more like a few days a week?

This is entirely up to you. Most classes (with some exceptions) meet either Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday, Thursday. As a freshmen you will take 4 classes a semester. What days these fall on is entirely up to you, however I would advise picking classes based on interest rather then on time slot.

And how much time does a Beloit Student spend on homework? Once again, I know this will probably vary but can you somehow give me an average amount of time?

Beloit students work hard. There is really no average though. Just know that you will be challenged and that you will be doing a lot of work. But students still find time for fun and recreation. As long as you have decent time management skills, you’ll be fine.

hey everyone, i haven’t sent in my deposit yet but i’m definitely going to beloit is anyone else going on the admitted student days from the 18-19?
