Beloit Open House?/Financial Aid

Hey!

Everything’s boiled down and I personally am ping-ponging between Beloit and Smith college for my top choice!

What’s really holding my choice back is not having my complete Beloit financial package yet! Has anyone received one yet? I know that I’m a lucky recipient of an Eaton Scholarship but that’s it so far!

Onto the next matter of business! OPEN HOUSE! It just happens to fall across the same weekend as State Forensics for Wisconsin students, so I’ll be in the area anyway! Here’s hoping I can go!

Is anyone else going? Is anyone sure that they’re going to Beloit? : )

Also, I’m trying to list the main pros and cons of the schools I’m deciding between. Current/future students: what are your favorite aspects of Beloit?

i’m definitely going  paid my fees and sent in my FYI choices and reslife forms. i’m attending the open house as well.

i got my financial aid package, but it wasn’t all that good, honestly. thank goodness i received fair amount from the charles winterwood scholarship, or else beloit would be out of my reach.

i love everything i’ve read about the environment and student life at beloit. i’m hoping the open house reaffirms my decision! i could spend hours browsing the website. there’s always something interesting going on, and it seems like all the students are really truly interested in what they’re doing.

Mom of a recent Beloit grad here. You have two wonderful choices, but they are two vastly different places. Our experience with Beloit, both with our own kiddo and in observing his many interesting friends and teammates, is that it is a place of transformation for all kinds of kids. All Beloiters are bright and talented, but it is mind boggling how vastly interesting and diverse and creative and confident and accomplished these kids are. The other thing we loved was how accepting and supporting the students of each other and of their different pursuits. National trampoline champ? Cool. Sports announcer as a career aspiration? Go for it? Soccer? Ultimate frisbee? African dance? Poetry slam? Its all good. Then there are the caring faculty and administrators who somehow seem to know who is who and how to encourage kids to grow and discover new passions and talents in their four years there.

Can you tell we love Beloit? Wish I had another child to send there. Truly, it is a special place and its new president is only making it more dynamic and exciting.

Thank you both for your responses!

boilingwax When did you get your package? I’m waiting on pins and needles for mine and hoping that I’ll be able to afford Beloit! If not, Smith is doable but a little on the steep side.

hilldweller Thank you so much for your post! It’s great to hear from a parent. : ) Right now I’m leaning toward Beloit, but I’m going to do a few more visits before my final decision.

My daughter got her merit aid with the acceptance and then the need based aid came separately last week. It was not much, but more than we’d expected based on other schools’ offers.

She hasn’t visited yet, so she’d like to go to the admitted students day. We’ll have to see if we can make it happen.

snoozn - When did your daughter get her acceptance letter? I got mine with ED in December, and didn’t receive any aid with it. I later received the Eaton scholarship but since have had no word on the rest of my package.

A definite future Beloiter here. I just sent in my enrollment last week, and sent in everything else earlier.

I already heard back about aid, which was very generous. I can’t wait to start college!
