i go to a public school with a low API score. will this hurt me when it comes to college applications? would this lead colleges to think that being ranked high in this school means that i am just the best of the below average? also, would good AP scores offset the appearance of my school not being rigorous?

I wouldn’t worry about it. There have been plenty of discussions on here about kids from high ranking schools, and most don’t feel it’s been much of a benefit in admissions. Your GPA and SAT/ACT test scores are the biggest indicator.

You will expected to be at the top of the class, but you are, and your intelligence is otherwise backed up by scores that are standardized across the board (AP, and soon to come, SAT and SAT II).
