I just attended a summer program at the University of Michigan. As a rising high school junior, I will be applying for colleges soon.

How can I make my participation in the program and the experience gained beneficial in my college application?

high school senior*

You need to start by knowing that attending the program has almost no affect on your application. But colleges do like to know that you were productive and didn’t just sit around all summer. The program can have the best impact if it helped direct you or change you in some way. It is what you got out of the program that matters. This can be directly related to the program’s content, or something personal about relationships or perspective.

Was it tasp?If it was universsities know about tasp and it’s greatness, for a like of better words. This was stated on another thread but “pre-college” programs run by universites are usually cash cows for that institution. These include summer@ Brown, cornell pre-college,etc. These DON"T include tasp,RSI,COSMOS,etc. That being said, you still may be able to use it to your advantage by describing it and it’s impact(what you learned, etc.) on you in your application and using it to your advantage. But it’ll just be one part of the CA pie, which includes essay,Recs, actual application, transcript, testing, and if youre applying for FA,FAFSA and a tax return. Weew that was probably my longest response. Good luck! :)
