Alright so I’m going to be applying to BU later this year for 2011 fall admission. I really would like to apply to CAS for Psychology or Biology or anything that has high admission rates. The problem is I have a 3.1 Unweighted GPA but about 14 AP/IB/Honors classes.

I also have a 28 ACT and 1800 SAT.

CGS sounds good but it seems I would have to pay for six years of college at BU rather then paying for four years?

Also I would not like to spend an extra two years in college while my classmates graduate earliar then me.

I am interested in pre-med and I want to be prepared for biology and chemistry in college but I don’t think I am although I’ve taken IB Biology.

Will I be able to apply to CAS and CGS? or only one?

At CGS you will complete mainly required courses within 2 years, remaining years ( 2) you will complete your course work more related to your major/majors.
If you apply directly to CAS instead of CGS if denied admission, you could possibly be offered admission at CGS.

What would you guys recommend for me since I feel like I don’t have a good chemistry background but a strong biology background and strong math background?

You just do general core classes for two years, then move to the other colleges. Personally, I wouldn’t do it if I for sure knew what I wanted to do. Though I think you will get in.

Don’t apply to CGS if you want to do Biology or PreMed.
You only get one elective each semester, so it will be really hard for you to get all of the required courses in without taking summer. And as others have said, many times if you don’t get accepted to your first choice school, you will get an acceptance from CGS.

Alright so what do you guys think I should do with my stats? I would like to start my major earliar but I don’t want to be rejected and not offered CGS.

Just apply to CAS… Unless your grades severely drop I am pretty sure you can get in. BU acceptance rate is 55%. Meaning that more than one out of every two applicants get in. There are just a lot of people on this forum who are over anxious and start putting themselves down even with high stats.

Look at the acceptance thread - almost no one got rejected. At best, you might find a waitlist. Stop stressing - you will get in.
