Benefits of Hutton

I petitioned for admission into Hutton Honors College, though i'm not sure if I want to do it or not yet. I feel as though because I wasn't directly admitted into the college (I had a 30 ACT as opposed to a 31 or 32 that probably would get me admission), the classes may be harder for me. I realize most students only take 1 honors class per semester, but I dont want to feel like everyone in the class is smarter than I am, or as though I can't keep up. Has anyone taken Honors classes that would reccomend them, or should I stick with just being a Kelley Direct Admit student?
Thanks

Honors classes are easier than regular classes! Don’t worry about it. They assign more coursework, but the professors expect to give out all A’s and A-'s before the course starts. The students in my honors classes have appeared the same as everyone else in my regular classes. The only difference is smaller classes where your professor knows everyone’s name and no dumb questions where the professor repeats the exact same sentence he said two slides ago.

Additionally, don’t ever think that a 1-2 point difference between your ACT score and someone else’s will ever imply one’s intelligence over another. ACT is so highly irrelevant.

Okay, thanks guys. I really want to do an honors visit to see how a class would go, but I don’t know if I can stay overnight. After talking to my parents and hearing different opinions from this board, i’m definitely leaning towards doing it. I guess nothing negative can come from it and its not binding. If there are any more opinions I would love to hear them. Thanks again.

My D did not qualify for Hutton as a high school senior, but after seeing how much several friends were enjoying the program she worked extra hard first semester to qualify for 2nd semester admission. The classes are smaller, the students engaged, and evidently the grading easier. So I’m really not sure that there is a downside. I’m glad to hear you’re leaning towards doing it. Congrats on qualifying!

No real differences other than the fact Honors courses are a cakewalk…you can literally fail every test in a class and walk out with an A, because they give out loads of extra credit.
Honors is nice b/c you get smaller classes, but to be frank, i have found most of the “dumb” questions (as maxellis put it) actually come from “honors” students.
Just do well in whatever classes you take and you will be fine. The benefits of honors often dissipate after your sophomore year, then you are all lumped into the same classes anyways.
To get honors designation on your diploma you need high gpa and/or departmental honors. So, not being in hutton is no big deal.
