I'm worried that AP Calc will be too difficult. This year, I didn't perform that well in pre-calc and many of my classes...but that was mostly because of me procrastinating and not getting enough sleep.

How much harder is Calc in comparison to AP Stats?

I'm not certain what field I want to go into yet. If I don't take Calc, will it close any doors for me?

If I take AP Stats in lieu of AP Calc, how will it look to college admissions?

I assume you mean Calculus AB. Calculus AB is easier than Pre-Calc if you ask me. I found pre-calc to be incredibly boring but Calculus was incredibly easy and very interesting.

Calculus AB is probably slightly harder than stats. Its really not to bad until you get to revolving around an axis perpendicular to the x which really confused me, but that is like the very end of the course.

Well, you probably will have to take calc in college for a lot of science related fields. You can’t get around it unless you go to a more liberal arts major. Colleges would much rather see AP Calculus over AP Stats because it is more rigorous.

(If on the off-chance it is calc bc and I am wrong)
-it will be much more intense
-colleges will like it more

It is Calc AB, yes. Sorry, I should I specified. My school only offers AB.
I really have no idea what I want to do, though. Should I take Calc just in case?

Take Calc. Depending on how selective the college you’re applying to is, some may interpret you going from precalculus to stats as you being afraid of taking Calc.

I did terribly in pre-calc. I’m talking 77 average, THAT bad. As soon as I got into Calc AB, I got straight 90+s on every exam. I think Calc is way easier than pre-calc, and a lot of my friends say the same.

I think you should take a look at external factors before you decide. For example, will you have a lot of time to devote to math this upcoming year? I took calc bc last year and screwed myself over on the ap test because I was too busy to actually sit down and understand the material during the year.

I’d also look at what you want to do with your future and then make the choice.

But in terms of pure academia, stats at my school is a much easier class than calculus. Precalc also did nothing to prepare me for calculus (I felt like it was kind of just a review of Algebra II).

Finally, (and it’s hard for me to wrap my head around too) NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT COLLEGE ADMISSIONS. Do things for yourself and because YOU want to, not because you think you’ll have a better chance of getting into a certain college. Here’s a friendly reminder that admissions reviews are HOLISTIC, and not all precedented on whether or not you take a single class.
