got wait listed with 4.4 gpa, 1240 sat, all state soccer player and captain, nhs. Know people in high school who got in with 3.5 gpa and same sat scores. Not sure what this school was thinking. Got into northeastern so safe to say i wont wait around to see if i get in off the wait list.
@VirginiaDare did you scroll down to the bottom of the home page in the portal? I had the same thing happen to me and then I saw at the bottom right a dialogue box talking about the scholarship awarded.
Accepted 1200 sat. Doing the British O&A Level system.
accepted with presidentās scholar, half the tuition a year
Bentley has a pretty low admission yield and cost is what i suspected. The school is generally unaffordable for most people.
Is anyone enrolling? i do not think I saw one poster here who was able to get a package from Bentley that made it affordable.
I still feel it is a good school and everything. Not meaning to sound like I have sour grapes but my gosh. Based on the numbers I am seeing posted for scholarships, we are talking 65K, 55k, and 45k per year! Congrats to those that have that type of cash. Holy cow!
@VirginiaDare I donāt know what happened to your son. It sure blows out my SAT cut-off theory. Your son had great stats. Something must be wrong. How could they not have given him the lowest scholarship of 1/3? That is nuts.
Congrats @MassDaD68 on your son getting accepted! You should be so proud, great accomplishment for him!
Bummer on no $, Iām feeling ya.
Word of note to those receiving a tuition award. Please note the minimum GPA needed to carry that going forward, I donāt like that! My son was awarded a nice merit package from another school which had no strings attached other than remaining in good standing for 4 years.
Congrats to all who got good news from Bentley!
@RightCoaster So did your son get a scholarship? I thought I recall he did not.
Most schools place a GPA min on these scholarships. Typical is a 3.0 average.
Can people post what the requirement is for the 1/3 and the 1/2 scholarship awards? I am curious.
@MassDaD68 no $$ mentioned in acceptance. Weird. He actually was asked by a coach to submit all of his info last summer for a pre read and interview. With his grades, stats and ECs I thought heād get the 1/3 deal. Nope!
So who knows how they have determined to give $$ to. From what Iāve seen and heard from my son and his well performing friends, the Boston area schools are not offering any merit $$ unless you are a super star 34-36 Act. Itās tough for a lot of families to afford these schools now.
If you check the financial aid site for Bentley it lists the merit awards and minimum gpa requirements.
So the only money that has been released is merit right? No one has heard anything about need based ?
@haley99 I noticed in the acceptance letter that that it does say to click on the finances tab to see the FIN AID and the FIN AID contact at Bentley. I did click it on but did not see anything showing award amounts.
It might just be that they have not posted it yet. Strange to place it in the letter and not have it.
Most schools send out the FIN Aid at a later date. Might be the same here.
I just joined this thread and wanted to share that I know a student who is currently at Bentley who couldnāt afford it but wanted to go there. His parents kept going back to the administration for more money. They eventually brought the cost down to $30k/year. I know this because I know the parents who shared this information with me. However, they had to keep having a conversation with Bentley until the number became reasonable for them. It was stressful because they didnāt find out the total package of aid until the very end of April. Just an fyi.
My daughter was accepted ED with a presidential scholarship so sheās going and is quite happy about it.
Best of luck to everyone. I would suggest that you all talk to admin at Bentley. They may up the amount of aid/grant they give you.
My son was accepted and his merit notification was right below the admission decision section but he had to click on the +/- to see the merit award. There is no header, just the +/- so maybe some overlooked it???
Bentley sent a nice packet in the mail within a week of her email acceptance.
@MassDaD68 I received the 1/2 tuition scholarship and it states that you must maintain a minimum 3.25 GPAā¦ Iām pretty sure i saw someone who got the 1/3 scholarship say that they had to maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA
@NJMom180 Thank you for that. I would have missed a simple + or -. I just rechecked and i donāt see that either.
Thanks also @JGDutchmen . Looking at that I wonder if the full scholarship requires a 3.5 GPA. Ouch!
hello folks - Bentley is a private university and they donāt offer grants/merit unless someone is a superstar or family income falls within certain range. Bentley applies very strict criteria for aid. These days price tag for any tier-1 or tier-2 private university is no different than any Ivy colleges.
All good Boston schools are very expensive - Boston College, Northeastern, Babson, Boston Univ, Tufts.
Babson - 53% of students get any aid
BU - 62% of students get any aid
Northeastern- 77% of students get any aid
Boston college 53% of students get any aid
Tufts University - 44% of students get any aid
Bentley Univerity - 77% of students get any aid
Also, when family income crosses certain level, then forget about any aid. College education is very expensive and unfortunately, it is the reality. After graduation, average starting salary doesnāt even equate to college cost/year :(.
@schak123 You are definitely right. I noticed the huge cliff in aid when reviewing the data set. Just going from memory here but the breakdown showed a family who makes 125K will pay around $47K and a family in the next bracket down would only pay $28K. A big difference to me.
A family making 125K is going to find it very hard to spend $47K per year. These are all averages but they do imply what you are saying. Being full pay at $68K is all but impossible with this type of income level.
It appears Bentley is a two tier school. You have the wealthy full pay and the poor FIN AID people but nothing in-between. Must make for an interesting campus.
Your post is correct. Boston colleges are a place for mainly wealthy students. Thank god there are public schools for the middle class.
My advice to parents is to not even bother applying to these private Boston schools unless you can realistically pay the published price.
