Bentley Merit Scholarship Calculations?

Hi guys I was just wondering how much money in merit based scholarship funds I might receive for Bentley University. Here’s some of my academic info:

Unweighted GPA : 91.50
Weighted GPA: 93.0
Would have take 6 AP Classes and Honors in the rest of the core classes by graduation.
SAT: 680 English, 690 Math

No idea. They appeared to have changed the merit awards this year but there is not much information. Unfortunately, this sub forum is really quiet. It would be great to hear from people who have recently visited…

Sorry to maybe pour some rain on the topic but I think your SAT is a bit low to receive merit money. I feel you need to be over 1400 min. As Suzy mentioned, they recently changed it so you might be the first class under the new rules.

Good luck.

@MassDaD68

What new rules? Do you have specifics? Bentley does not give out particulars on what you need for merit money so how would anyone else know what SAT/ACT scores are needed? If you do have exact figures on what you need, please share. Thanks

My 1400 SAT comment is just based on what you can gather here from the past.

The change is that Bentley used to offer a 1/3, 1/2, and Full tuition scholarship. It was unique in that as tuition increases, so did your merit scholarship. Most school give you a static merit scholarship that stays the same all four years.

Bentley changed the wording on their web site this year. It is unclear how the new merit scholarships will work.

One thing that will work in your favor is is if your a west coast person. Bentley would offer you more to entice you if are over the averages. If you just another white, Boston suburban kid, then not so much. Just my opinion.

In reality, you will only know for sure once you open the envelope from them. There is not a lot of concrete information we can give you because they just are not that transparent on it.

Keep us posted. I hope you get a great package from them.

@euve69 The 1/2, 1/3 and full tuition merit scholarship details have been removed from Bentley’s website and replaced with no specifics on merit. So this is new for this year. I saw on another thread that your son visited, met with officers etc… Did merit come up during those conversations? I’m curious if this was discussed at all during the tours/presentations since its clearly a change in merit. There is not a lot of activity on this sub thread so it would be great if folks who have visited could share what is being said (if anything) about merit.

As to the 1400- My understanding is that was a ‘soft threshold’ last year based on some parents experience and discussions in admission decisions last year. Especially for New England White Males for which they have an overrepresentation at Bentley.

@suzyQ7

At the open house we went to, there was not much really discussed on merit in terms of particulars. They did say they have merit awards based on gpa sat/act scores etc but nothing concrete.

If you use the net price calculator on college board your SaT score should give you about 20,000 in merit aid. That being said Bentley has superior job and placement opportunities and is fantastic.

The net price calculator on college board is very accurate.

It would appear from the college board net price calculator you would receive 20,000. Or slightly more?

@Misscollegeabx I don’t think you can guess at how much he might receive from college board’s net price calculator unless you know information about his parent’s income and assets.

Sure you can! I put in income of 500,000 and his test scores!

@Misscollegeabx My senior has better test scores and didn’t qualify for $20,000 and our income is no where near $500,000. Did you forget to fill in an amount under assets?

Put in $1M for house value. My daughter has a 1510 and committed. We live in NYC hence we get no financial aid (we dont apply either) but he did get a full scholarship last year non need based.

Have you tried the net price calculator - its fairly cut and dry based on academics. His friend with low 1400’s received half academic. They dont qualify for financial aid just merit.

I’m fairly certain that I filled it out correctly with income, house value and assets. My daughter has between a 1450-1490 and we also have another child that is enrolled in college. I saw a grant of around 15K. @nycgirl1234 I don’t know how to distinguish whether that grant is for financial or merit. Do you know how to determine that?

@nycgirl1234 Did your D apply ED? I always wondered if you still get merit if you apply ED.

@wheatonmom I am surprised the acceptance letter and award letter did not specify what the $15K award was. It should have clearly said. You might have to call if the letters do not explain it.

oops… we were discussing projections on merit aid. My daughter is applying regular decision. I was surprised at the numbers others were quoting for aid because my projection for a grant is much lower than theirs. I’m not anticipating that much aid, whether it be financial or merit.

Hi guys just got word that I did end up receiving a merit based scholarship!
