BEO Engaged Scholar Program?

I was reading about this on their website but was a little bit confused. It says that the program enables students who are passionate about communities to design courses of study and action. How does this work? I can’t seem to find a detailed description of the program. If anyone is familiar with this program, please share. Much thanks

I’m also interested in the Engaged Scholar Program and am trying to learn about it. It seems that it is a specialty within the BEO concentration that students must apply for, and it allows selected “scholars” to develop their own personalized plan of study to help them address a social issue of their choosing. The email address for the director of ESP is located at the bottom of the program’s main webpage, and I suggest you email him for more information.

The Engaged Scholars Program is a specialty within certain concentrations (BEO is one, but it is not the only one). Students take the regular concentration requirements but they also have additional work designed to engage them with the community. I am not in the program so don’t quote me on all of the details, but my friends who are doing it for Public Policy have done a lot of work with community organizations for credit, and have taken seminars/done capstones focused on using the concentration education to affect social change. I think its a cool program from what I’ve seen, but I will say that its not unique to the program to be involved in community action in Providence. You should also look into the Swearer Center and other organizations on campus that do work with the community.
