@LebronJames420 btw I remember that your stats are pretty good, I only know about the cores that you shared, but based on it, I’m sure that you’ll get into at least one Ivy League
Lebron, be positive! You know, it’ll be a good experience to study in the U.S, plus, we never know what’s going to happen! So, be positive, and remember that in 4 years lots of things can happen!
My D has an international friend who has an interest in going to a university in the US. I would be interested in hearing past student experiences at Berea or if any of the current students for this year enroll for fall of 2020, please update on what it is like to be a student at Berea. It seems like it could be a great opportunity for an international student. Are there any current students or alumni from Berea who could give some feedback?
This forum, unfortunately, is not very active. If it werent for Heriniaina and me, this forum will probably be dead. However, there’s a video of an American girl, describing the life at Berea College. You can watch it here: She practically tells you everything.
Ah, it’s @mynameisjacey she makes an interesting video… unfortunately there are just 3 she’s not making anymore
Did any of the international students received any decision yet?
I haven’t, getting more anxious with each passing day.
The same for me. I’m getting more anxious day by day.
Do you think that 1300-1350 on sat will let an international student in?
1300-1350 is enough to be considered. Whether you actually get accepted or not will probably depend on other aspects of your application. Which country are you from?
I’m from Tunisia and i have a good college profile( leadership positions, launching my own club …) but i didn’t write a perfect essay that’s why I am wondering!
We’ll all find out soon enough
Hahahah the waiting is killing me honestly
Thanks @Heriniaina for the information about the youtube videos. I hope other students will report back here next year or make similar videos on youtube.
You’re welcome @1Lotus
If any of us gets there, one should really start a YouTube channel or a blog focused on international applicants. BC is really in lack of resource when it comes to students’ experience.
My daughter is in her second year at Berea. Of course currently she is home because of the pandemic. Once she received the acceptance to Berea she stopped looking and is very happy with her choice to attend.
She absolutely loves it at Berea. She has a great group of friends, has a great job, and academically is doing great. You need to be prepared though; the academics at Berea are rigorous for the most part. Some classes are easier than others, of course, but all her professors so far have had very high expectations. There is plenty of support if you are struggling with a class.
Understand that Berea is a working college and every student has a job for at least 10 hours a week, for which you earn a paycheck. She does not find it to be a burden and actually enjoys her job.
The dorms are nice, clean, and functional. They are not fancy but she has no complaints in that department. The most important aspect in the dorms is your roommate. She had some issues with her first roommate, nothing serious and they came to the conclusion they were just not compatible. They agreed to change after the first semester and has had the same roommate since then and they get along great and will probably remain together to the end of their time on campus.
Her only complaint is the food at dining. She says it is just not good most of the time.
If you are looking for a party atmosphere, this is not the school for you. Berea is in a small town and just does not have a party mentality. If you enjoy nature, you will enjoy being there. It is in the mountains and the campus is very well maintained and beautiful. The largest city is Lexington and it is 45 minutes away.
If you have any further questions, I will try to answer them. Good luck on your decisions.
I should add, there are many international students on campus. My daughter is not one of them but she knows plenty of them. During the current situation, the international students were permitted to stay on campus because traveling internationally right now is not recommended.
Decision is out guys, I got waitlisted so have to wait until June 1st. I just hope ya’ll on this chat got a positive one.
@Heriniaina Do you have a back up plan if you don’t get off the waitlist? I was hoping you would be able to report back here about your experience.
@dlm031691 thanks for the info. I was wondering if the rigor at Berea is similar to other colleges. I keep hearing that it rigorous but wondering if just compared to hs or some students who haven’t been exposed to AP/IB/honors or a Hs that doesn’t have a lot of students who go on the college. If you think of other things to share, please do. It sounds like a great opportunity for some students-esp an international who wants to study in the US and unable to afford the costs. 10 hours of work a week seems reasonable for an almost entirely free college education/room/board. Do you know if internationals are able to stay over the summer if they can’t afford to go home?
@1Lotus unfortunately I don’t have a back-up plan about study abroad, but I cant get into a local school.
I’ve heard stories that applying more than once makes your chances of admission higher than the previous one(if you show improvement in your new application, of course). So, I’m planning on retaking the SAT and working and improving the other parts of my app, then reapply next year. But, I should wait until June before I decide tho; I just hope I get out of this waitlist.
