<p>I don't think rank matters that much. Don't worry about the whole ranking thing too much. Just get the GPA and standardized tests in UCB range and he should be fine. I've never considered ranking to be such a huge factor. In fact, many schools don't even rank, including mine.</p>
<p>I dont think you even put down your class rank when you apply to the UCs. THey wont know until after you are in.</p>

<p>It's low. Berkeley averages over 4.0. They don't look at class rank, but they will look at GPA and difficulty of classes taken. If he excels in EC's, scores high on all tests, and writes great essays, he'll have a shot. But it's still a reach.</p>
<p>I could swear they look at rank: They compare the students applying from your school and take the top gpa's.(however many they were going to take) That's what they did for my private high school. They did not seem to care a lot about SAT's.
A couple of athletes got immediate acceptance.</p>
