Berkeley 2011 Appeal Thread

Here we go. The new decision date (June 1st) is much sooner than promised (June 15). That's nice of them!

My appeal was eight pages long (including supplemental documents such as letters of rec., grade reports, etc). Let's see how this goes.

I'm very happy with UCLA, but I'm excited to see how this turns out. This determines whether I get to live with my fianc

Do you check in the same place you initially checked your application status? I also sent in my appeal letter but I don’t see any changes

Yes, it’s the same page. They just haven’t received yours yet. Deadline is still tomorrow, after all.

Still see the “sorry to inform you” letter :/

Sorry, I don’t want to cause anyone to worry. I mailed my appeal relatively early.

Wow, Berkeley appeal decisions for transfers start coming out June 1st? UCI told me I’d have to wait til July or August. Good luck, guys!

I turned in my appeal on Friday and myBerkeleyApplication still has the rejection letter up.
Mine was 2 pages long and included 4 grade reports, 3 letters of rec, and 6 additional documents. You can read more at:

Dmitry, where did you find out that they release decision June 1st?
Do you mind sharing your case?

I thought you cant submit letters of recommendations for an appeal

yea, it’ll have an update on your decision page saying something about your appeal being received and is currently under review. I wrote about a 2 1/2 page appeal letter and included a letter of rec too. Conveniently it was just the right size for the UCLA appeal too. I’m hoping but from what I hear, the College of Engineering is incredibly impacted.

My case was partly clarifying that I am a better student than I used to be but mostly revealing a huge 400-hour extracurricular I’d left off my original application.

Thank you, dmitry.

So does anyone except dmitry have the “appeal received by the appeals committee” message up on myBerkeleyApplication?

I sent out my package last Friday, and still, nothing changed on myberkeleyapp.

P.S. I’m appealing for EECS major. (I got rejected with a 3.93 GPA with a pretty decent personal statement and lots of extracurricular activities)

My appeal is based on two recent scholarships I received from my current college.

Don’t expect too much though. :-(

So dmitry, how do you know they release decisions June 1st?

2 DesperadoMarco:

EECS is a tough department to get in to. But good luck!

I actually went through the similar threads for last couple years. Guess what? Actually, appeal decisions come out around June 1st every year.

I guess when our myBerkeleyApp gets update, we’ll be notified the date is June 1st instead of the date we found in FAQ’s.

Dear UC Berkeley Admissions,

I’d like to appeal on the basis that I wasn’t accepted because I didn’t apply. I feel this is compelling new evidence because I only applied to UCI and UCD, and due to a change of heart I’ve realized that I really wanted to go to your fine institution all along.

See you this fall!
-WWLink.

@albertde Thanks. Good luck to all of us~

@DesperadoMarco

Yea, I’m going for EECS too. This is actually my 2nd time. The sad thing is that all my international friends who applied all got in but yet I’m still left hanging with a 3.8 GPA fulfilling everything except EE 20 & 40 and having actual work experience in the industry. But nevertheless, good luck to us both.

haha…I was wondering how many people appeal the decision? hope we all get good result.
at time, i don’t want to give so much hope…haha

No, I’ve found that the healthiest state of mind is to assume that I’ve been rejected (the chances are so low) and get excited about the situation I already know is happening. Otherwise, I’m going to freak out like I did before 4/29.
I’m only checking the page daily at 6 P.M. and no more.

Your appeal for admission has been received and is under review. Please check this site regularly for a reply. We will do our best to post a decision by Wednesday, June 01, 2011.
