This is an older Berkeley TV ad. I like it better than the current one actually.
YouTube - [UC Berkeley] The Promise of Berkeley

creative, I like it but its kinda goofy too ie i showed my roomate and he thought he was high

"Without Berkeley, the world I know would be more ordered, less risky, but not the world I wanted. Not free. Not Berkeley. Not me."

Love that.

Hey UCBChemEGrad, when did u graduate from Berkeley? I'm also a senior in ChemE at CAL...nice to see a fellow ChemE in these discussions.

^ 2000.

You'd think I'd have better things to do with my time, but this board is kinda addicting. :)

2000, whoa it's been a while. Are you working or going to grad school? Hopefully I can get some insight on grad school but fear that my GPA is way too low (upper division GPA about 2.7). I am a transfer student and am taking my last 3 courses....ChemE 160/162 and Chem 120A. Any advice from you would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Haha...yeah, it goes by quick.

Working. I've worked full time since finishing at Berkeley and graduated from the evening Cal State Northridge MBA program...my employer paid for it, and it was close to home, so it met my needs.

I was a transfer student as well - from Cal State Northridge, haha.

What type of grad school are you looking at? Honestly, I recommend working after you get your BS. While working, you develop new interests that you might not have thought about before. And an added benefit is your employer might subsidize your advanced degree - saving you some money.

Hmmm, ChemE 160, thats the design class, right? It was a fun class, but sometimes the group work can be a pain. Chem 120A...you put it off for a while...haha. Pretty much just math, right?...all I remember is the wave function Psi(star)Psi...or something like that. ;)

Good luck! You'll do well.

Wow, both transfer, how about that! Lol. I am definitely going to be working after graduation...have way too many loans to pay off.

Regarding graduating school, I'm aiming (hopeful!) at either Berkeley for ME or Stanford for CivE. Energy/environment engineering is my research interest. Even with a 2.7 at CAL, my CC GPA averaged into my CAL GPA gives me around a 3.2. In all honesty, I would go to any school that would accept me, but my aim are those two aforementioned schools.

ChemE 160 is a crazy class only because a rigid schedule is not followed. It's like we were given a project definition at the beginning of the semester and have the whole semester to complete it. My project is Biomass Gasification followed by methanol production. Chem 120A is a crazy class! I don't know if I made a smart choice pulling it off at the very end. Do people generally fail that class by the bunch? So far, the math seems ok, but the conceptual part is getting harder.

Thanks for your advice!

Yeah, ChemE 160 is crazy like that. Your group needs to be disciplined and devote good time management...but, no one does and ends up in the computer lab late into the night cramming to get the project done. Awww good times....brings back memories. The best part was going to all the restaurants and getting dinner with the group/friends. Do the transfer students kind of stick together? We did in my class...kind of hit it off during orientation and I lived in the transfer dorm at Davidson Hall for the first year. Berkeley were some of the best years of my life. Enjoy it!

I don't think 120A has a high failure rate. Did you join AIChE? They had a pretty good test bank from previous classes when I was there.
