Recently I made a discussion of my chances of getting into Berkeley and my stats are 2030 sat and 3.92 unweighted gpa. I realize that this school would be a reach for me but I don't understand why people were saying that I would not have any chance of getting in unless I got my sat score to 2200?? The average sat score for California residents is 2044 according to http://admissions.berkeley.edu/studentprofile ... I just don't understand why I would have no chance right now, can someone please explain this to me?

Take a look at this summary of results that were posted on these forums:

Note that some divisions (College of Engineering and College of Chemistry) appear to be more selective. But also note that holistic and subjective evaluation of applications including essays and the like is not well captured in stats-based lists.

where can I find similar results for other colleges?

You can go through the results threads and make your own list. However, you need to take into account the distinctive admission characteristics of each school, like what they emphasize and not care about. For example, a University of Texas summary would have a column for class rank percentile, as that is the most important factor there.

Thank you

The average SAT is 2071 this year.

UCB does not care much about SAT scores. UCB does care about GPA though. Your GPA is okay, so you have a chance.

You have a chance. My stats were similar and I got in. But you have to keep in mind what college within Cal you’re applying to. Competitiveness in the applicant pool varies

Apply anyway but keep all your options open for other schools. Take a LOT of time on your essay and say who you really are. Truly show them that you are not just number but a person. Consider the essays an interview. Show them something they cannot see in your application, possibly your passion for something. My daughter had a GPA of 4.25 but only a 1720 SAT and a 25 ACT and got accepted. We truly believe her essays were what got her in. She wrote them from her heart, no bs sob story, but really who she is. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t get in. My daughter thought Cal was a reach and got in. She was denied from a school we thought was her “safety”. But do apply to backup schools, and more reach schools too, you never know. Good luck!

Honestly, you should just apply, you’ll never know if you’ll get lucky Don’t base it off your test scores and GPA your personal essays or activities can be amazing and they can admit you for that :D

I had identical stats to you! 2030 sat and 3.92 UW gpa and people told me it was a reach. However, I was accepted and will most likely be attending Berkeley this fall. Don’t listen to the people who say you have no chance at all! Write good essays and you’ll be fine! Good luck!

Congratulations on getting accepted! What major are you going into if I may ask?
