You did not elaborate on the rigior of your coursework but since your weighted GPA is less than .2 higher than your unweighted, so I guess it’s not that rigorous! For engineer field, it is even tougher to get to those schools:
You have a good chance for UCSD as an international applicant.
But pretty bad chance for Berkeley, unless you wrote a fascinating essay. Berkeley is one of the schools that actually look at their applicants’ essays very carefully. The essay affects your chance a lot.
@uclaparent9 - During my 9th, 10th, and 11th grades, I took the most rigorous courses possible in my school. I was ranked 1/20 in 9th grade, 2/30 in 10th grade, and 2/25 in 11th grade. In 12th grade, I am in the first decile (new school), since my school doesn’t rank. In 10th grade only 1 honors course offered and I took it. In 11th grade 3 AP courses were offered, and I took all three. 12th grade took the most advanced english and math courses possible. Throughout my highschool, I took the most rigorous courses possible except for 12th grade science and social studies courses. Thanks for your chance!
@Mminjjae - Thank you for your insight! What is my essays are graded 9/10. I had 3 AP Lit teachers look over it, 7 peers look over it, 2 other outside counselors look at it.
@sattake - My GC told me for admissions purposes, I am considered domestic, but for tuition purposes, I am considered as an international applicant. However, this doesn’t seem right, and I will call Berkeley tomorrow and check again with my GC to make sure. Thanks for your insight!
@uclaparent9 - How can I increase my chances? This is my parent’s favorite school, and my top 3 school. I could really see myself here. If I don’t get into Berkeley, SD is my number 1 choice! I really want to get into UCSD and any tips as to how I can increase my chances would be GREATLY appreciated!
^You should know that your subject tests need to be much better than what you projected to be…especially that physics score! You can not get into UCB with those scores. You need to retake them both and aim for 750+, if you end up having low scores in your first try.
Your ACT is ok for UCSD but a bit low for UCB. Need 34+ for a good chance at Cal.
As uclaparent9 stated, since I assume you will be applying to the College of Engineering, I recommend you take another Science Subject test in December.
