Berkeley Appeal Admits Who Haven't Turned In the SIR...

I'm a spring admit that appealed and got in for fall...and I'm still deciding between UCLA and Cal. I have to let them know about my final decision by tomorrow (11th), and I was wondering if anyone is still as lost as I am. Holler back, y'all.

what is your intended major...

LBokchoi, why did you appeal if UCB Fall admission wasn't your first choice?

Lo1603, my intended major is English.

And ee_stu, I appealed because I thought it would be worth a try - I didn't really think I'd be successful, though. 39 cents, a recommendation, and an 1-page letter written two hours before the post office closed was all it took to buy myself another option. I was happy when I got a call from Cal, but now I'm seriously torn - even more so than before.

Bokchoi, I am also a English major and will be matriculating at Berkeley this fall. For quite some time, I too struggled with the traditional UC dilemma (UCLA versus Cal). In the end, the answer resounded loud and clear, UC Berkeley would be a better choice for both my major and what I wanted to pursue. I based this decision off speaking to my professors, Berkeley's reputation, and visiting Cal for several days. First of all, all of my english professors suggested I choose Cal English over UCLA English. Though this is purely anecdotal evidence, it has to say something when all the English faculty I ask are recommending Cal. Second, I'm very familiar with the UCLA campus and lifestyle and I know its just not for me. When I visited Cal, I knew UCB was a much better match for me as both a writer and a person. If you want me to elaborate further on this last point, just pm me haha.

But all in all, I would strongly recommend you to choose UC Berkeley English over UCLA English. You'll love it.

PM sent.....

ee_stu: Are you suggesting that everyone apply to only one school (their first choice), and if they don't get in, too ****ing bad?

No, that is not what I meant. Notice that I said UCB "Fall" admission. Like me, she was torn between UCB Spring admission and UCLA Fall admission. She appealed and got UCB Fall admission, but I'm surprised that she's still undecided. Usually people appeal because that's the university they really want to attend.

BokChoi, I had a tough time deciding between UCSD, UCB, and UCLA. I didn't submit my SIR until 30 minutes before midnight on June 1 so I know how hard it is to be undecisive. Either way, UCLA and UCB are great institutions so you win either way. (If I was an English major though, I'll go to UCB in a heartbeat)

"(If I was an English major though, I'll go to UCB in a heartbeat)"

ee_stu, Exactly!!!

I did it! I sent in my SIR to Cal tonight. I would like to thank you all for extending support, guiding me through this difficult decision process - I really appreciate it. I was still hesitant at 10:30, actually...but after much thought and prayer, I decided Cal is the place to be.

I look foward to studying with my CC colleagues on the foothills of Berkeley. Let's go conquer the world together! :)

You made the right decision. "Friends don't let Friends go to UCLA." haha jk.

HAHA...I like your quote...and I like you're still up checking CC like I am xD I'm signed for the the July 6 CalSO :\ Is it possible to change dates still?

lol, not sure...you can try if you so wish =)

but what is absolutely more important and imperative is that you get a facebook as soon as possible and join the transfer group...

EDIT: I am CC's biggest insomniac...especially here on the transfer board...I WIN! haha. Nice to know I have company though =]

Hmmm. Well, even if we don't meet up for CalSO, I'm sure we'll have many opportunities to do so later on once school starts.

And yes, I will join facebook once I get an e-mail account.

NO DO IT NOW! THEY MIGHT RESCIND YOUR ADMISSION IF YOU DONT SIGN UP FOR A FACEBOOK ACCOUNT WITHIN THE NEXT TWENTYFIVE MINUTES!!!

hehe. jk

I'm HERE TOO!

Summer sleeping schedule...

hahah, all the berkeley kids stay up later than the ucla kids. which must mean we are better...haha jk, I'm really tired of all the elitist bs that goes on here on these boards, as you know gabe...haha

YEAH, it doesn't bother me too much though, doesn't KEEP ME UP AH HA HA H A HA H A.

Anyone want to help me write songs with Sonar/etc.?

what is this sonar you speak of
