im applying soon to berkeley and I am trying to figure out its app. Now im pretty sure theres no recomendations and that there is no transcripts involved, but that doesnt seem right because no other school ive looked at is like that. so is my entire evaluated file consist of SAt scores and my physical part of the application.

Secondly, I am wondering how berkeley life is. One thing i have heard which im not sure about is that berkeley overall is very very liberal. Also, how hot does it actually get during hot seasons. What stats are considered competitive for out of state acceptance, and what stats are good for getting merit scholarships out of state.

I think you need your school transcript, sat i and sat ii scores, etc. On the pathways site, I believe, there's an information booklet on how to apply, for you to download, it has info on a lot of stuff, including scholarship reqs.
Hope that helps

I have not gone to Berkeley, but I have had two older sisters and one friend go to Berkeley (I also live 30 minutes away from the school, so I can tell you a bit about the weather). Berkeley can be very liberal, but it can be whatever you want it to be. My friend is a huge conservative, and she is having a great time at Berkeley (she joined the young conservative club, I believe). The weather is generally very mild. Months like may, june, july, and august can get "hot" (as in mid to upper 80s) but that's pretty much it.

Technically, no official transcript is required, but you obviously have to write them in yourself, and if you try to make your grades better than they actually are, odds are they'll find out...

I've got a friend at Berkeley--she's very very conservative, and she's been having a great time. I'm also conservative (not as much as she is), and she highly recommends it to me. (But it is very very liberal overall).
As for weather...I've never been uncomfortably hot in Berkeley (and I live half an hour away and hate heat). I think it's one of those places with two sorts of weather: warm/sunny and cloudy/rainy.

berkeley weather rocks. its never too cold. or too hot. it goes from 50-60 in the winter... to 60-80 in the summer..... so.... its never too much to handle.

I'm a conservative and I'm not too uncomfortable here at Berkeley. It can get sort of annoying when the professors start leaking liberal bias all over your lecture (and they do, at length), but generally the liberal atmosphere isn't a bad thing. A conservative is always welcome to friendly debates in Sproul Plaza with the liberals, and the Berkeley College Republicans group is extremely well-organized, and quite large.

Weather...what to say about the weather? As a NorCal resident, I can honestly tell you that 9 times out of 10, the weather is great. Never dips below 40, never gets above 90. That being said, this past month has been mysteriously warm, generating 90-plus weather well into October, allowing some to consider it "earthquake weather". We did have our first rain of the year yesterday, so everything is fresh, cool, and wet! Good times all around!

I agree with the fact that despite the largely liberal tilt on some things, i'm not too uncomfortable here. In fact, i'm having a great time. Though i agree as well with pook about the professors bias getting annoying.

Coming from the East Coast for the past 4 years i'd have to say this weather is what you want. As they have all said, Not to hot or cold. Mostly sunny, though right now we are getting a bit of rain.

Whoa, I'm confused. I would think that Berkeley would want a transcript, at least, since they don't even have anything from a counselor, or teacher. This means that aside from Collegeboard scores... it's all about trusting the student?

as i said before, they will verify it after you get in. their decision is based on what you say, and if your transcripts dont match up, it doesnt mean that you get to stay in..

No recommendation letters

A lot of liberal people

Largest Republican campus organization

Don't lie on app, they'll check your transcript later

Weather is good, sucks when it rains

Social life is what you make it to be. Halloween was pretty lame this year. Looking forward to the Big Game. Bonfire!

I was actually talking to my counselor about the transcript thing and she was pretty shocked.... but that's just another aspect that makes Berkeley what it is, I guess :)
