Berkeley Application Update Units Question

Yes, Berkeley sends out select supplementals to some transfers.

Just got off the phone with a rep.
I asked about the LOTE section and simply checking off the box saying “I completed 2/3 years of the same foreign language…” is fine. Not necessary to put in the high school courses on the section.
And for a physical/biological science with optional lab, you can combine the two on one line, but make sure you explain that part on the additional comments section.

Hello
Does anyone know if we’re supposed to include units from AP credit in the UC-Transferable units section? If not, should I write a note about in the additional comments under the unit table? With courses from my next semester I’ll only have 52 units completed at my CC but I have more than 60 units complete with AP credit. Any help would be much appreciated.

@psychky‌ Thanks, that’s exactly what I’m doing to do. :-bd

@ProspectHummer‌
I personally don’t think so. Since it indicates UC-transferrable courses taken at California Community College ONLY.

@ProspectHummer I agree with darren808, only put UC transferable courses. Because if you think about it, AP exams aren’t necessarily worth the same at all the UCs either (a 4 in AP Chem may be 4 units of credit at UCI but 0 units at UCB [cause a 5 is needed]. Don’t know the actual numbers but that’s just an example).

I also think you should be fine if you’re under 60 and have AP credit that makes up for the rest. Remember they’re still looking at your entire regular application you submitted in November. If it didn’t, 1 year CC transfers (with a ton of credit from hs) would not even be possible without taking 30 units a semester haha.

Alright thanks a bunch guys! I’ll leave AP credit out.

I have a question regarding the Berkeley Update.

I know for a fact that this update is instrumental to our application, but does anyone know the purpose behind filling out this update? On it, it states “GPA FOR UC-TRANSFERABLE COURSES FROM CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE(S)”.

I guess my question being, are the admins going to judge our overall GPA, transfer courses/ units based solely on this update page, and disregard our actual transcripts???

I apologize if my question seems like a no-brainer…but I truly am puzzled by it!

I think they just want it so they have a quick eyeball of stats for this month.,

@lindyk8‌
Thanks for answering my question.
I got another one for you:
*I’m assuming you’re familiar with the IGETC system. If not, then go ahead and just disregard the question.

To satisfy the IGETC Foreign Language, can I combine two DIFFERENT languages to satisfy the two-year foreign language requirement for UC? Or is it strictly two years of the same language?

I am wary of this foreign language requirement thing because of what is stated on the UC Berkeley Application Update:
“Language other than English (LOTE) – 2 yrs of the same language in high school w/grades of C or better; or college-level course(s) (check assist.org for your school); or AP language exam scores of 3, 4, or 5; or IB (higher level) language exam score of 5, 6, or 7.”

Thanks a million!

@darren808‌, same language. The UC rule is the equivalent of two semesters, but as I recently found out some CCC’s IGETC requirements are the equivalent of four semesters. You need to google [your CCC IGETC] and there should be a work form you can see which will tell you straight out. It should also be in the catalog. If you’re on the semster system, the five unit language courses are the equiv of two semesters.

@lindyk8‌ THank you for being so helpful!
