Berkeley Biz Admin Major Question

On the assist.org it says:
"If you repeated or have taken more than one course to fulfill a prerequisite you must use the first attempt to satisfy the requirement."

ASSIST Report: CAMINO 11-12 UCB Articulation Agreement by Major

I'm applying this November. I failed a Physics & English class last fall? I'm going to get A's in them this semester. Does this mean they only count the F's? Also, I'm taking Business 25 in the Spring- will this kill my chances? :0

Wow, this is actually a really good question. According to what it says, they should only count the F’s. However, generally they take the replacement grade as the important one. Huh. You should ask a counselor at UCB about this one. I’d call and ask…even I’m curious to find out.

Oh goodness, I hate talking on the phone. I guess Ill email them. -___-

Wait emil, I read that you got into Cal even though you failed some classes. Can you tell me a little bit about your admissions experience? What major did you apply to? :)

Yeah, sure!

I failed 3 classes my first semester at CCC. The classes were speech, business, and trig. My college counselor picked my classes, I went to them, and I hated them. I was also 16 when I started CCC. At that time in my life, I probably would have really disliked just about any class. The biz and trig weren’t transferrable, but I got Academic Renewal anyway to be safe, and I retook speech and got an A.

Ultimately, I had 3 F’s still showing on my transcript, but none of them were reflected in my GPA. Now if only medical schools were so kind…

I applied as a philosophy major for two reasons. First, I was debating between psych and phil, and I knew phil was easier to get into. Second, I actually thought that if I went to Cal I would be a philosophy major.

Essentially, to get into Berkeley, I’d just advise being innovative. Like for me, I applied phil instead of psych because the average GPA admitted for philosophy is like a 3.65, whereas the average GPA admitted for psych is around a 3.8. I also made my app cohesive, in the sense that my personal statements, volunteer experience, and life experience related very well to my major.

I hope that helps! Go Bears!
