During your CalSO program you can park in the Ellsworth Parking Structure (between Channing and Haste at Ellsworth Street).
On behalf of the College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Berkeley, we would like to welcome you to the class of 2008!

The College of Letters and Science (L&S), Cal's liberal arts college, has a worldwide reputation for excellence and academic achievement. At the undergraduate level it offers more than 70 major programs in the arts and humanities, biological sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences, as well as a wide variety of interdisciplinary major programs. We are delighted that you have chosen to come to Cal and believe that the College's diversity of majors and courses will provide for you a wealth of opportunities to realize your intellectual dreams.

Cal Student Orientation Program (CalSO)

To help you make a smooth transition to Berkeley, CalSO is offering orientation programs in June and July. We expect all new students to attend. If you haven't already signed up, you can do so on-line at http://calso.berkeley.edu. During the CalSO program, a College adviser will review degree requirements and discuss the process for choosing classes. You will also have an opportunity to meet with a departmental major adviser who will critique your proposed course selections. To develop a list of proposed classes follow the steps below.

Six Easy Steps to Prepare for CalSO:

Review the Transfer Priorities section at http://ls-orientation.berkeley.edu/. Scroll down to
the Preparing for CalSO section and review the Planning
Your Years @ Cal WebPages

Familiarize yourself with the Earning Your Degree Guide
available at http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/fp/EYD.pdf.
Complete pages 1, 3 and 4 of the Earning Your Degree
Worksheet, found at
http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/orientation/eyd.html to
identify courses that you may want to take during your
first semester.

Learn about L&S majors at
http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/majors/intro.html
Utilize ASSIST http://www.assist.org/, an on-line
resource to determine California community college course
equivalencies for UC Berkeley lower division requirements
for majors.

Review the on-line Schedule of Classes at
http://schedule.berkeley.edu/ to determine class
availability and obtain location, times, instructor and
course control numbers needed for enrollment. A quick
tutorial on using the online Schedule of Classes can be
found at
http://services.housing.berkeley.edu/NSS/Content/soc.html.

Get a copy 2005-2007 General Catalog (call 800-766-1546)
or bookmark the on-line catalog
http://www.berkeley.edu/catalog/.

Generate a list of 8 to 10 possible courses for your
first term. You should plan to complete four courses per
semester. This list will allow you to plan for alternate
schedules should some of the classes you wish to enroll
in be full at the time of your enrollment. It is crucial that you bring your proposed class list to the CalSO program in order to be able to obtain feedback from departmental advisers.

Again, welcome to Cal. Expect your college years to be challenging, enjoyable, and rewarding.

Sincerely,

Berkeley Bureaucracy

Damn, what do I do guys? Does anyone have a number I can call up?

yay, I finally get a confirmation. Quick question. If I'm bringing my mommy as a guest to Calso will I be sharing a room with her or will I be rooming with other students?

They will ask you at the unit 3 admin office if you want to room with your mom or not. I think almost everyone does though.

sweet yeah I didn't want to be rooming with a stranger.

EDIT: Thanks Gabe!! =]

how many different class selections should we bring to Calso?

I have six possible classes total:

three of them may fulfill my pre 1600 requirement and another three of them may fulfill my post 1600 requirement.

Should this suffice?

Gabe? anyone?

I wish I had seen this thread earlier, before I posted the exact same question. Oh well. I'm not going to CalSo anymore, f**k it, I'm too lazy to get up at 7:00. Anyone else skip on-campus housing and get an apartment? I got assigned a triple in the transfer dorm. All i have to say is screw that. My new place is sweet, I live near MLK and Dwight. So far, living in Berkeley is awesome. I went to the bar for the first time last week, what a wonderful new world of beligerance!

^ *** squarepeg.

I did not know you were going to Berkeley. I thought you were going to be a UCLA transfer.

P.S. I am probably skipping a lot of Calso as well. My friend just told me to get my advisor code and then bounce.
