If I were to complete all the prereqs listed on assist.org except the ones that don't articulate (computer science major), what are the chances to get into Berkeley? My GPA is 3.47 cumulative (It's the one that they will see, since only GPA up to Fall is looked at).

I'm asking specifically because I am deciding whether I should take the last remaining prereq (diff equations) next semester. I already have 5 classes next semester, but do I want to take 6 classes total just for Berkeley (and might not get in after that, too)? The 5 classes I have registered for currently are:

2 ethnic studies classes (should be easy)
1 music class (should be easy)
1 intro to bio class (should be alright)
1 2nd semester chem w/lab class (should be hard).

I must take the courses above because I need chem (for UCSD major prereqs) and I need the rest for IGETC. So, if I know my chances, I can decide whether I'll take another class for Berkeley.

Did you apply as EECS or L&S? Were you able to complete any of the “recommended” courses, or only the required ones? Have you taken CS classes even if they don’t articulate? Do you have ECs and good personal statements? There’s a lot more to Berkeley admissions than just GPA.

That said, from what you’ve told us, you might have a shot at L&S, EECS is probably unlikely. But it’s hard to tell from what you’ve said.

I’ve taken all java classes at my CC (CS1 - Java, CS2 - Java Data Structures), and Berkeley says that people should take a data structures class even if it’s not officially comparable to theirs.

" To be competitive for admission purposes, the department advises prospective
transfer students to take UC-transferable courses in:
data structures–even if not officially comparable to Berkeley’s CS 61B; and
Java (preferred) or C++. "

I haven’t taken any of the CS61 series (my school doesn’t articulate with any). My school doesn’t articulate with CS70 either, so I haven’t taken that. But, I know that Berkeley knows that these classes are often difficult to find, so that’s okay I guess.

I’ve done calc 1, calc 2, calc 3, and linear algebra. Calc 3 isn’t required, but I did it for another school. The one I’m missing is differential equations for Berkeley.

I rate my Personal Statement an 8/10.

I don’t have many ECs during community college (just one: part of a Reading Partners program, where I tutor an elementary student in reading). I listed a couple from high school though (they also are related to tutoring). I’ve been on Dean’s list a few times in CC and I also listed a scholarship I won my senior year of high school – some DemandTec Retail challenge.

If you do get accepted it will likely be a Spring 2015 Enrollment, but there’s still a 5-10% chance for that Fall Acceptance and I’d say 20-25% deferred to Spring.

Are you a resident of California? For what I know, Berkeley, and other state universities like UCLA, etc, have reserved a specific % of seats for Californians. Only a few seats are kept for people from all over the US and world.
