Berkeley Conditions For Admission

I have a question about this condition:

"You must complete all UC-transferable courses in progress or planned with an overall B average, with no grade lower than a C. Immediately contact your Admissions Officer if you will not be able to meet this condition."

It isn't clear to me what this condition requires. Does it mean that my overall GPA cannot drop below a 3.0? Or does it mean that I must get a B average in the spring classes I am currently taking? Or does it mean that all the classes that I marked as in progress or planned when I initially submitted my application (winter and spring classes) must average out to a B?

I haven't been doing awesome in my classes this semester, and my spring grades might not average out to a B (looking more like 2.6 average). I realized earlier this year that unless I started working a lot more I wasn't going to be able to afford to transfer. Taking a new job wouldn't leave me time to study or do homework, but I thought that would be OK since I thought all the schools I would possibly go to would only require C's, so I took a new job and started working a lot more hours. I ended up getting into Berkeley and decided I really want to go there, but then I saw this condition which I might not be able to meet. I've tried contacting Berkeley to clarify this but I haven't been able to get a response.

in progress or planned means spring semester and reported summer semester.

yes, this means you need a 3.0 GPA minimum for this semester (and summer, if applies) as well as no C's. So I imagine a 3.1 GPA with one C is still not cool.

yeah, I would let them know ASAP about your grades.

what if I get .......... one or two C, I know...! and a A and a B?

Your overall GPA just needs to average out to a B(3.0), with no grade lower than a C in each of those individual classes, so it doesn't matter how many C's you get as long as your over all GPA remains above 3.0

oof, right, sorry, i was mistaken. i meant to write no grade lower than a C. so yeah, just keep your GPA above 3.0 (no D's or F's) and I say you should be fine.

So, theoretically you could get all C's your final semester and have no problems as long as your overall GPA still stays above 3.0? Also, how do you know this is true (I and other people who I've had read it interpreted it differently)?

Um, its pretty straight forward. You can call and check if you don't believe us.

"You must complete all UC-transferable courses in progress or planned with an overall B average, with no grade lower than a C."

Doesn't say a thing about your overall GPA. It says, courses you are taking this spring (in progress) or planned to take (summer) must be completed with a B average (3.0) with no grade LOWER than a C (meaning don't fail anything). It's about as straight-forward as it gets

mattn: That is what I thought it meant. But what I want to know is if the "average" they are talking about will include the class I took in the winter, which was "planned" when I submitted my application (so is pretty much in the same boat as my spring classes as far as the school is concerned, even though it's already done with), or if my spring classes have to average out to a B on their own.

Right now it looks like I might get B B C this semester. That isn't a B average, but if the average they are calculating includes my winter class it will be A B B C, which is a B average. I want to know if they are going to kick me out or not, but they aren't responding to my emails.

Did the winter grade get included in your grade update?

I submitted my update before the first deadline when my winter grade wasn't known yet, and then resubmitted it later when I found out my winter grade (after the first deadline but before the second, I don't remember which one was Berkeley). However, on the bottom of my conditions for admission it says:

"In addition, you must:
Complete the following specific course(s):
PHIL 106: Intro to Philosophy
MUS 105: World Music
MUS 101: Music Appreciation
ANTH 101: Intro Physical Anthropology"

That philosophy class is the class I took in the winter, so it looks like Berkeley never received the grade from that class, which leads me to believe the average they are talking about will be the average of those 4 classes. It doesn't say that though, that's why I'm asking.

Winter and Spring semesters are separate. It'll indicate it on your transcript

It doesn't differentiate on the provisional contract. It just says planned and in progress.

hmm i'm confused. so did we decide it was overall gpa average or semester average? or unreported grades averaged? like sping semester + winter quarter

I don't understand what you're all so confused about. The courses you reported planned upon submitting your application, or the courses you reported planned/in progress at the time of the application update, you should maintain at least a 3.0 average in those courses. If you cannot understand this, then Cal is not for you.

To be safe, make sure you maintained at least a 3.0 in the classes you enrolled in for spring 2008.

Eirenarch
did you get any response from Cal now?
i am in the same situation

can I take classes that is not reported in my application to raise my gpa? I try to take the spring intersession (6/2-6/19). Those are the classes I need for minor + interest, will those classes count?

report that you're going to take them, but they shouldn't have a problem with it

i got a big problem now, i got an offer from UCB econ for spring 2009 too. But i am afraid that UCB revoke my offer. It is because I took 2 course for latter grade, they are 4 units for accounting and 3 units for english. I also got 2 classes for credit/no credit.

The problem is i just got a C grade for my accounting. It mean i am impossible to get GPA 3.0 above, even i get A grade in my english course(i am still waiting for the grade).

In my UCB admissions, it is said that "You must complete all UC-transferable courses in progress or planned with an overall B average, with no grade lower than a C."

does it mean that i have to get B grades or above in both my english and accounting courses? does it mean that i have to get GPA 3.0 or above? Otherwise i will be revoked?

have there any people ever experienced this situation before?

I am very concerned about this, please answer my questions.

million thanks
