Berkeley EECS list of "to do" items

For those that got into the Berkeley college of engineering, one of the checklist items is totally baffling me.

It says "submit your required documents to the college of engineering by JUNE 1st". However, when I click the link it simply takes me to a list of things such as "prepare your telebears phase I and bring it to Calso" etc. - in other words no specific documents to submit to them.

I also checked my conditions of admissions carefully. All docs they need are to be submitted by July 15th (transcripts etc.)

Anyone else wondering about this??

Input is much appreciated! Thanks!!

Click on the link “Tele-BEARS Schedule Form”. I think we have to submit it. Then they will email us the form that we must print and bring it to Calso.

pUqeecs thanks for the info. I did fill it out and click “submit”. Then they emailed me a pdf version of that form. However this item is still not “checked off” the list like all the other things (SIR, SLR …etc.)

Well… if so then I have no idea because I don’t submit it yet. I didn’t take any CS61 series and EE courses in CCC. So I have to think about courses to take a bit. And I also can’t decide which option to choose. Any input?

Thanks!

I have to take the 61 series too as well as the EE40 and EE20N. So I put EE 40 61A and 61B (I may be able to take 47B) and Discrete Math.

Since I’m not that interested in computer science, I chose “OPTION 1” which is ELECTRONICS. Option 2 is “communications, networks & systems”, Option 3 is “computer systems” (mix of hardware and software) and option 4 is PURE computer science (pretty much the only EE courses you take for this option is EE40 and EE20N, which all EECS majors have to take anyway).

So, the bottom line is if you’re primarily interested in the Electrical Engineering side of things (like me) then you might want to choose options 1 or 2. Options 3 and 4 (especially) are heavily computer science (software) oriented.

[Undergraduate Notes | EECS at UC Berkeley](Information for Current Undergraduate Students | EECS at UC Berkeley) has suggested schedules for transfer students (see page 31 of the PDF).

If you have not taken any CS 61A/61B/61C or EE 20N or EE 40, you may want to try to find any community college in your area that has those courses and take them in the summer. This can relieve the schedule pressure that you will have. An alternative is to take two of those courses at Berkeley during the summer session.

ucbalumnus is there really a lot of schedule pressure to complete the courses?

At first glance, looking at the “sample curricula for junior transfers - option 1” it appears like it is easily doable, even with the need to complete 61A, 61C and discrete math!!

Is there anything missing from this in reality?? It almost seems a bit too good to be true in a sort of way.

As far as taking the CS series at a CCC during summer, that would probably be a complete impossiblity. I have researched this thing to death and not only are these courses super rare at CCCs, but even at places where they are offered it is usually once a year, in a year when the total solar eclipse occurs on the 2nd to last tuesday of the month  (joking …but I had to make that point).

If you are not doing CS, then the schedule pressure is less, since you can take 20N and 40 in your first semester, then have three more semesters to fit the rest of the EE courses into your schedule (for second semester, you can take 105 and 120 to cover prerequisites for most of the rest of the upper division EE courses; perhaps add another course or two from 126, 127A, C128, 130).

Someone who wants to emphasize CS but has no credit for CS 61A/61B/61C may need to take some of the simultaneously, or during the summer before the first fall, since the need to complete all of them before taking most upper division CS courses can cramp the schedule – if a transfer student takes them in the usual three semester sequence, that leaves only one more semester to cram in all of the desired CS courses (other than 170, 184, or C191) which require 61C.

ucbalumnus & victor5555 thanks for the responses.

@ucbalumnus I am doing CS. Can I just leave EE course for later semesters and take the whole CS61 series the first semester? Are EE courses preequisites for any upper division CS courses?

The course catalog lists prerequisites:

[General Catalog - Computer Science (Engineering)](http://sis.berkeley.edu/catalog/gcc_view_req?p_dept_cd=COMPSCI)

EE 40 is needed for CS 150 (which also lists CS 61C). EE 20N is needed for EE/CS C149 (which also lists CS 61C and CS 70 or Math 55). These are hardware oriented courses (digital systems and embedded systems). (For some reason, the computer networks course is listed as EE 122; it lists CS 61B but no EE course as prerequisite.)

CS 61B and CS 61C list CS 61A as a prerequisite, though it is possible that if you have significant programming experience, you may be able to get away with taking them simultaneously.

If you do that, you may want to preview CS 61A and CS 61B from their course home pages:

[CS 61A Home Page](CS 61A Home Page)
[CS 61BL: Data Structures](http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cs61bl/sp11/)

Note that there is a strong rumor that CS 61A will switch to using Python next semester. You may want to also read the [Dive Into Python 3](http://www.diveintopython3.org/) book and do the exercises as well as preview the recent CS 61A course.
